Waupun Upends Thunder In Semi Final

First of all, Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. I know all the the Thunder Dads were happy to be spending their day at the ballpark. In a game between two solid clubs, Waupun was the last team standing, but it came down to the last play of the game and what else could you ask for on Father's Day.The Thunder struck first with a four run top of the first off of five base hits. They led 5-1 until the bottom of the 3rd when Waupun responded with a 6 run inning to grab the lead 7-5. It was 9-7 Waupun in the final inning when the Thunder came up for their final at bat. After the first two reached to put the tying runs on base, consecutive strike outs set the stage for Juan Gurrola. Juan smoked the first pitch he saw to right field and it was slicing away from the rightfielder but he dove and made an unbelievable catch to end the game. If the ball drops we are definetly tied with the go ahead run on base, but it wasn't meant to be. The Thunder played their hearts out all weekend long and came up just a little short in a well played Semi Final game.

Jordan Schommer homered in the game, a deep drive over the left field fence in the 2nd. Matt Geldnich was 2-3 at the plate and Blake Hall, Mason Kirk, Nick Sterman, and Juan Gurrola each had one hit. Cooper Schlosser threw two very solid innings in the loss, striking out two. He pitched well all weekend long and gave the Thunder a chance to win in every game he pitched. It was a fun weekend of baseball and everyone should be proud of the way our Thunder played.

The Thunder will get back into action Wednesday in Hartland at 6:00pm in State League play. They will head to Neenah next weekend to play in the Suburban Athletics Tournament, with 3 games on Saturday. Hope to see you there and Go Thunder!
