HERON LAKE — Once again receiving a stellar pitching
performance and a clutch base hit late in the game, the Heron Lake
Lakers rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Fox Lake Foxes in the nightcap
of a First Nite League amateur baseball doubleheader Sunday afternoon
at Laker Field. Matt Franks (one strikeout, one walk) went the
distance for Heron Lake, allowing just two runs on four hits over seven
strong innings. With the bases loaded, no outs and the score tied
at two runs apiece in the bottom of the seventh, the Lakers’ Alex Meyer
blasted a long RBI single to plate Ethan Duffy with the game-winning
run. Tom Albrecht cracked an RBI double earlier in the inning, scoring
Ben Scheevel with the tying run as Heron Lake trailed 2-1. Scheevel
singled and scored Heron Lake’s initial run in the first inning, while
Lucas Knutson, Eric Milbrath and Ike Rogers (2-for-3) also smacked base
hits for the Lakers. Heron Lake, which is now 11-9 overall and 10-6 in the league, travels to play Fairmont Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. R H E FL 010 001 0 — 2 4 2 HL 100 000 2 — 3 7 2 |
