HERON
LAKE — Lucas Henning was 3-for-4 with four RBIs Sunday evening, leading
the Wilmont Cardinals to a 9-3 victory over the Heron Lake Lakers in
the nightcap of a First Nite/Gopher League amateur baseball doubleheader at Laker Field.
Jay
Scheidt (2-for-3), Blake Rogers (two-run double) and Jesse Teerink (RBI
single) were among the other top hitters for Wimont, while Steven
Kremer, Joe Ahrens, Nick Ahrens and Ryan Swanson each smacked a single
to round out the Cardinals’ 11-hit attack.
Adam
Diekmann earned the win on the mound, striking out five batters and
allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk in five innings. Joe
Ahrens (three strikeouts, two walks) pitched a pair of scoreless, no-hit
innings in relief for Wilmont.
Matt
Franks was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Heron Lake, while Thomas Albrecht
went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple. Ethan Duffy and Lucas Knutson (RBI)
each cracked a double for the Lakers.
Duffy hurled four innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks. Albrecht tossed the final three frames, permitting two runs on two hits and two walks while fanning a pair of batters for Heron Lake.
Wilmont,
which is now 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the Gopher League, hosts Tracy
Wednesday. Heron Lake (6-5 overall, 6-2 First Nite League) plays Fox
Lake at Welcome next Sunday.
