HERON
LAKE — Alex Meyer belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth
inning Sunday afternoon, helping lift the Heron Lake Lakers to a 7-6
victory over the Pipestone A’s in the opener of a First Nite/Gopher
League amateur baseball doubleheader at Laker Field.
Meyer
(three runs scored) and Ike Rogers were both 2-for-2 to lead Heron Lake
at the plate, while Ethan Duffy (two-run double), Lon Eichenberger (RBI
single), Eric Milbrath (RBI single), Thomas Albrecht (RBI single) and
Kirk McBreen each had a base hit for the Lakers.
Matt
Franks pitched six innings and earned the win for Heron Lake, allowing
five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three batters.
Albrecht tossed the seventh for the save, working out of a basesloaded
jam after allowing one run on a pair of hits, an error and a hit batsman.
Greg
Quist was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Pipestone, while Nate
Alfson went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in the first inning. Colin
Taubert and Brandan Alfson (double) had the other hits for the A’s.
Danny
Moffitt (one strikeout, no walks) pitched five innings for Pipestone
(4-1 league record), permitting seven runs on nine hits. Nate Alfson
hurled a scoreless frame, striking out three of the four batters he
faced.
