MOUNTAIN LAKE — Pounding out a total of 16 hits Sunday
afternoon, the Heron Lake Lakers claimed a 10-3 victory over the
Mountain Lake Lakers in a First Nite League amateur baseball game to end
the regular season.
Ben
Scheevel smacked four singles in six at-bats (4-for-6, RBI) to lead
Heron Lake’s offensive attack, while Octavio Jimenez (two doubles, two
RBIs) and Thomas Albrecht (RBI) both went 3-for-5.
Lon
Eichenberger (two-run single) and Ethan Duffy (RBI single) ripped two
hits apiece for the Lakers, while Matt Franks and Chad Knutson each
added a single for Heron Lake.
Duffy
(two strikeouts, two walks) pitched five innings to earn the win on the
mound, while Eichenberger (three strikeouts, two walks) tossed the
final four frames for Heron Lake.
Blake
Spinks (three innings, four strikeouts), Cody Penner (four innings,
three strikeouts) and Eric Johnson (two innings, two strikeouts) shared
the pitching duties for Mountain Lake.
Spinks
(3-for-3, RBI), Johnson (RBI double), Kaleb Grev (RBI single) and Dusty
Pfeiffer (2-for-5, double) were the top hitters for Mountain Lake,
which is 4-13 in the league and will play at Wilmont in the first round
of the playoffs Wednesday night.
Heron
Lake, which is now 12-10 overall and 11-7 in the league, will play
Minneota in Lakefield to begin the playoffs Wednesday night (7:30 p.m.).
The first round is a best-ofthree series.
