Posted Aug 12/12 - Outlaws Splash Through Rain Soaked Matchup with Bloomington
Jeff Miller and Sam Baumgartner split time on the mound this past Sunday for final State Tournament tune up.

The Outlaws traveled to Faribault MN on Sunday to complete their 2012 regular season against the Bloomington Eagles.  They were met with clouds a steady rain shortly before game time.  Mother nature finally cooperated right around 1:00pm and things were a go.

The Outlaws went quietly in the top of the 1st inning with Sam Baumgartner being the only hitter to reach with a walk.  Jeff Miller and Sam Baumgartner were slated to split this game pitching, in order to get some pre state tournament innings in.  Jeff Miller took the mound first for the Outlaws and set Bloomington down in order in the home half of the first.

In the second Robb Larson was the only Outlaws hitter to reach with a 2 out single.  He was also left stranded.  Bloomington struck in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks, jumping out to a 2-0 lead.

More of the same for the Outlaws in the 3rd inning, with Mike Ringnell being the only hitter to reach base with a one out walk.  Once again...he was left stranded.  Bloomington added another two runs in the bttom of the 3rd stretching their lead to 4-0.

With two outs in the top of the 4th Travis Schuett attempted to start a rally with a single.  Jeff Appel followed with a double to left center.  Yet again...both runners were left at second and third and the Outlaws failed to score.

Sam Baumgartner took over for Miller in the 4th and tossed a scoreless frame in his first inning of action.

The Outlaws went quietly in the 5th going down in order.  Bloomington added another 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th as the Outlaws committed two errors along with 2 walks, a hit batter and an Eagles single.

Finally!!! The Outlaws offense showed a bit of life in the 6th.  Chris Nelson led the inning off with a single to right field.  Sam Baumgartner then joined him on the base paths with his second walk of the day.  Ryan Meyer then loaded the bases with a walk of his own.  Mike Roth then drove in the first Outlaws run with an infield single.  Bloomington then did a nice job working out of trouble by securing a double play and a ground out to end the inning.  One more run crossed the plate on the double play, and the score was 6-2 in favor of Bloomington.

Sammy kept the score where it was in the 6th striking out two Eagle hitters in the inning.

Once again the Outlaws tried to battle back in the 7th.  Robb Larson led the inning off with a walk.  One batter later Jeff Miller reached on a broken bat single to left field.  Larson and Miller advanced on two wild pitches with Larson scoring on the second one after it reached the backstop.  Mike Ringnell then had a 30 minute at bat, fouling off numerous pitches before drilling a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Miller.  That's where the scoring would end however, with the Outlaws losing by a final score of 6-4.

Jeff Miller finished the day pitching 3 innings and striking out 2.  Sammy also pitched 3 innings striking out 3 eagles hitters.  Robb Larson went 1 for 2 at the plate with a walk, a single and a run scored.  Mike Roth was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Jeff Appel was 1 for 3 with a double, Travis Schuett and Jeff Miller were 1 for 3, and Chris Nelson finished 1 for 4.  Mike Ringnell had an RBI sac fly and also walked.

Tid Bits
With the loss the Outlaws finish the 2012 regular season with a 6-9 record.  Later Sunday evening State Tournament seedings were released and the Outlaws were ranked #9 out of a 16 team field heading into this weekends play.  The Outlaws will be looking for redemption over the next few weeks trying to turn many close losses into victories and hopefully bring home a State Championship.

It looks like the Outlaws will be matched up against Le Center in game one on Friday evening some time.  This is just a guess however, with brackets set to be posted on Tuesday night after 6:00pm.  When Friday's game is finalized the time and opponent will be immediately posted.
