Posted Apr 13/10 - HIGHLINE 2 HAZEN 1
A classic High School Baseball battle was waged at Moshier Field Monday night with the Pirates emerging victorious 2-1.  Pitching and defense took center stage as neither team scored until the fourth inning when Highline's Jonny Locher doubled to the left field corner, stole third and came home on a catcher's throwing error to make it 1-0.  Senior, Derick Lewis had a no-hitter through the first four innings before surrendering two hits to the Highlanders in the fifth. Hazen finally scored a run in the sixth with three basehits to knot the score at 1-1.  Highline came through in the bottom of the seventh when Ryan Lingle battled back from an 0-2 count to single with nobody out.  Lee Carson's grounder to third was misplayed on the throw allowing Lingle to advance to third.  With Caleb Ramirez at the plate, Coach Hubner called for the "suicide squeeze" which was perfectly executed, plating Lingle with the winning run.  Highline's defense was, once again, outstanding turning four double plays on the night.  The offense was led by Jonny Locher (2-for-3), Ryan Lingle (2-for-3), and Jacob Wycick (2-for-2). Derick threw the first complete game of his High School career to improve his record to 2-0.  Highline's next action is Thursday afternoon with a make-up game at Lindbergh at 3:30 PM.  The week concludes with a doubleheader against Evergreen Friday at Moshier starting at 4:00 PM.
