Posted Apr 17/10 - DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

It took some time for the Pirate offense to show up against Evergreen on Friday.  Trailing 1-0 in the top of the sixth, Highline batted around scoring 5 runs in the process.  Jonny Locher led off the inning with a triple to ignite the fireworks.  Singles by Luke Werle, Joe Young and Jeremy Rowden finally gave the Pirates the lead.  James Hovland and Ryan Brett each doubled to cap the frame.  In the top of the seventh, Highline sent 12 more batters to the plate and added seven more runs to make it 12-1.  The big blow came from Brett's "Grand Salami" that was crushed over the left center field wall.  Nick Mead started on the bump for Highline and went four strong innings.  Ryan Lingle came on in the fifth and notched his third win of the season with the victory.  Jonny led the Pirate batsmen going 3-for-4.  Jeremy was 2-for-3 and Brett was 2-for-4.

The "Night Cap" started a little better for Highline when Ryan Lingle smacked his first homerun in the first inning.  The Pirates added another run in the second on a Jacob Wydick double and a Joe Young RBI single.  Meantime, Pirate starter Jonny Locher held the Wolverines in check from the mound throwing four shut-out innings in his first start of the year.  Highline added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth highlighted by Lingle's triple and doubles from Jonny and Jacob.  Luke Werle came to the mound for the first time this season and completed the shut-out, working three perfect innings, striking out six in the process.  Lingle ended up with a 3-for 4 night at the plate. Jacob was 3-for-3 and Brett went 2-for-4.

The victory  was Highline's tenth straight and prepares the Rats for quite a gauntlet next week.  League leading Mt. Rainier comes to Moshier Monday night for a 7:00 PM contest.  Wednesday, Kennedy comes to our house for another 7:00 game and Saturday is the High School Baseball Classic against Newport at Safeco Field.   Admission to the Safeco game is free and game time is 4:00 PM.
