On a night when Cardinals fans where fighting major traffic woes to get to the park, their team fell to the Diamondbacks 10-4 for their first loss of the season.
Cardinals pitchers were battling major strike zone issues with a rookie umpire while hitters succombed to the same strke zone problems offensively. The Cardinals missed some opportunities to open the game early and slowly let their famous bats fall asleep. They struck out 14 times on the night and managed only 2 hits by McCreedy and Sheardown.
Cardinals pitchers kept it close most of the night as Vulcano and Carmont allowed only 1 run apiece, while "Mowe'm Down" Sheardown worked himself out of a bases loaded jam and came out with a scoreless inning. Robichaud closed the game with a solid 19 pitch inning in the sixth as she faced the top of the order.
The Cardinals were not very challenged defensively in this Walkfest but Chattaway and Poole distinguish themselves with catches at shortstop while Robichaud and Sheardown combined for a spectacular put out in the sixth inning.
The coaches believe their players learn a valuable lesson in the loss and expect their bats to wake up on the weekend. |
