Hockinson 3, R.A. Long 0; Hockinson 4, R.A. Long 3:

The Jacks bats went silent in a GSHL 2A doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Hawks on Friday in Hockinson. RAL managed just two hits in the first game and four in the second as it dropped a pair of nail biters.

Red-hot Spencer Thorsen had two of those Game 2 hits, including a home run. “We didn’t have a whole bunch of energy,” RAL coach Mark Hulings said. “We made some base-running mistakes that sort of shot ourselves in the foot in a lot of situations.” Jose Hinojosa went 5 innings in Game 1 for RAL, striking out two, walking three and giving up seven hits. Before being relieved by Tanner Ruffe in the 6th. The Hawks scored two runs in the first and another in the fourth. With left-handed ace Joel Warden dealing on the mound, that was more than enough.

In Game 2, Jacks righty Tanner Ruffe took a 3-2 lead into the seventh — 59 of his 77 pitches went for strikes in 6 1/3 innings — only to hit two batters, give up an RBI single and see a potential double-play groundball skip off shortstop Brady Hulings’ glove to score the winning run. “Inches ... it was just right there,” Coach Hulings said. “It’s frustrating when you see it because it’s like, ‘Man, we’re right there guys.” R.A. Long (3-3 league, 7-5) hosts Mark Morris in a Civil War doubleheader on Thursday.
