Posted May 3/14 - R.A. Long 19, Ridgefield 2 (5 innings); R.A. Long 3, Ridgefield 1:
The Jacks bashed 20 hits in a Game 1 blowout then got a complete-game gem from Tanner Ruffe in the nightcap of a GSHL 2A doubleheader sweep Friday in Ridgefield. The wins locked up a Southwest 2A District Tournament bid for RAL (6-5 league, 10-7) ahead of its league finale at home against Hockinson on Tuesday. “We finally started seeing some of the hard work we’ve been doing at the plate,” RAL coach Mark Hulings said. “I’m extremely pleased with our mound presence.” Jose Hinojosa went all five innings in the first game, striking out five with two hits, but the real story was the RAL bats. Brady Hulings went 5 for 5, Ryan Peerboom and Hinojosa added three hits apiece, and Hunter Jones, Tyler Messinger and Spencer Thorsen all had two hits, including a two-run homer from Thorsen. The offense quieted down in Game 2, but Ruffe stepped up with his second complete-game win of the season against the Spuds, striking out seven while scattering three hits. Morgan Baker and Thorsen each had two hits and a double, with the former driving in the eventual game-winner in the third inning.
