Too many errors and not enough hits were a recipe for disaster for the Lumberjacks in a Southwest 2A District Tournament game on Ed Wheeler Field Tuesday in Centralia.

RAL (11-8) plays Hockinson in a loser-out game at 6 Wednesday night at Fort Borst Park.

“We kicked the ball around and it became contagious,” RAL coach Mark Hulings said. “There’s nothing you can say. You have to make the routine plays routinely and we didn’t.”

Centralia scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings and exploded for nine runs in the third. The Tigers collected three hits in the third, taking advantage of four RAL errors.

“(Starting pitcher Tanner) Ruffe did a good job getting ground balls but we couldn’t make the plays behind him,” Hulings said. “We needed players to step up and get him off the hill, but they didn’t do it.”

Ruffe allowed two hits and struck out three while pitching into the third inning.

RAL had six hits. Spencer Thorsen had two singles and Tyler Messenger added a double.
