Posted May 12/10 - Cardinals Sail Away With 13-11 Victory Over Mariners

On a night when the Cardinals coaches were willing to sacrifice a win in order to get their team ready for the Richmond tournament, the young Cardinals came through once again as they defeated the Mariners 13-11.

In his first start of the season, Kaiden McCreedy loaded the bases but battled back to hold the Mariners scoreless in the first inning. Young Michael Hampton followed with a solid first outing as his team missed a couple of close calls to get him out of the inning. The coaches were very impressed with Poole's outing as he showed much improved control which augurs well for the tournament. Robichaud battled hard to keep her team in the game as she struck out 3 batters in a row to hold her team in the game.

With his team ahead in the game, Coach Robichaud called in his closer, Chattaway, and he did not let him down, allowing only one run to seal the victory and a great offensive performance for the Cardinals.

The offense was led by Kaiden "The Hammer" McCreedy with 3 hits, while Carmont, Sheardown and Macmillan pounded 2 hits apiece. Poole, Vulcano, and Chattaway rounded the attack for the Cards while Faul and Robichaud were aggressive at the plate. Serious batting practices are starting to pay dividend as the team approaches the playoffs.

The Cardinals continued their solid defensive play led by Sheardown who started the game with a spectacular play at 3rd base in the first and finish the game with a beautiful catch in right field in the last inning. Carmont, Poole, Robichaud, Macmillan, and Chattaway also produce some great defensive plays which would later proved worthwhile as the Mariners attempted to close the gap.

The coaches were very impress with the character of their team and look forward to a succesful tournament in Richmond this weekend.
