As the skies cleared and the sun finally showed itself for the first time in ages, the Cardinals took the field for their much anticipated first playoff game against the always wild Cloverdale Tigers. The birds took charge and quickly tame the Tigers for a 12-5 victory.
The Cardinals bats came alive as Kaiden "The Hammer" McCreedy put away is newly minted Mickey Mouse ears, and swung his Big Demarini for 3 hits in the lead off spot. "Tannerriffic" Carmont was also playoff ready as he hammered 3 hits and produced 3 RBI's. Vulcano and Sheardown continued their offensive streaks with two hits apiece while "Alexa "Red Rocket" Robichaud produced two RBI's with a clutch hit in the first. Zack Poole rounded the attack with a hit for the Cards.
Carmont continued to show his coolnest on the mound as he fought the playoff jitters, and rewarded the fans with a one run first inning. Liam "The Lava Master" Vulcano was on fire as he struck out 5 batters and allowed only one run in two innings of work. His minor league partner Dylan "Mowem' Down" Sheardown would not be outdone as he took the mound and pitched two scoreless innings including a 4 pitch inning in the 4th. Thomas "The Closer" Chattaway came in and took care of business to preserve the Victory.
The defense was solid to the delight of the fans who were given plenty to cheer about. Chattaway and Carmont combined for an outstanding play at home in the first while McCreedy quickly adapted to the shorstop position with two defensive gems in the 4th to help sheardown record his 4 pitch inning. Zack "the Scoop" Poole and Carmont were solid at first base while Sheardown and Vulcano made numerous defensive plays from the mound.
The victory was a good start for the Cardinals as they prepare for a tough 2 game weekend that will have a major impact on their playoff hopes. |
