These teams split a double header at the beginning of the season and were anxious to meet up again for the rubber match.   Port Perry’s entire roster was in full force for the first time since May 16^th with players returning from school trips and one team member being reactivated from the disabled list.

The Jacks took an early lead in the first when Pickering’s strong throwing lefty Edward Matthews walked Brandon Griffen indivertibly allowing Layne O’Halloran to score from third base.  The Jacks added two more runs in the second when Kyle Dickson scarified bringing in Dylan Smith for the Jacks 2^nd run of the game.  Later in the inning Clayton Robinson had one of his two hits on the night to left field allowing Cody Till to cross the plate. 

Port Perry’s starting pitcher Jeff St. Pierre was able to keep Pickering off the board for three innings by overpowering them with his fastball and striking out 6 of 9 batters he faced.  The Heat finally solved Jeff’s fastball in the fourth inning as Troy Connor hit a double to left field cashing in Pickering’s only run of the game.

Right handed reliever Steven MacLeod made quick work of the Jacks in the middle innings preventing any additional scoring.  Ryan Jones pitched 2 solid innings in the 5^th and 6^th for the Jacks allowing a double to power hitter Peter De Benedictis but managed to come out of the inning unscathed. 

Port added an insurance run in the 7^th as Hunter Davidson looped a fly ball to shallow right field just out of the 2^nd baseman’s reach.  Closer Brandon Griffen came in for the final inning to finish off the Heat facing the minimal number of batters.

Defensively both teams were very sound this evening with no errors made in the game.  Overall, the difference in this night was Port Perry’s ability to be patient at the plate and also their aggressiveness on the base pads.  The Jacks were able to muster 4 well timed hits compared to Pickering’s 2 on the night.

The final score 4-1 for the Port Perry Lumberjacks.  Congratulations to both teams for putting on a great show.  Also, good luck to the Jacks as they head south for the 20^th Annual Stratford Peewee Memorial Tournament.
