Last week there was some exciting fastball on display in Cobourg as the Clippers organization hosted their annual invitational peewee fastball tournament.  Cobourg did a great job hosting one of the largest tournaments this year in Ontario and they even managed to provide some unexpected good weather for the weekend.

Port Perry’s first opponents were the Ennismore Eagles; the Jacks were able to dominate this game finishing it in 3 quick innings.  Ennismore’s only hit of the game came off Frank Sullivan’s hard drive past short in the first.  Defensively the Jacks Jacob Bricknell had a great game behind the plate. 

Next up for the Jacks were the Springbrook Royals, once again Port Perry took command of this game early piling up 8 runs in the first and finishing off the Royals in 4 innings of play.  Jake Pierson and Cole Kraftchick collected the only hits of the game for Springbrook in the final inning of play.

The Jacks primary concern of the day was facing the Napanee Express, last week the Express handed the Jacks their first divisional lost of the season so Port Perry was ready and willing to play this team again.  The Lumberjacks plummeted the Express with a load of hits in the first inning by Layne O’Halloran, Ryan Jones, Matt Reid, Corey Crosby, Dylan Smith, Patrick Fiorino and a sac fly by Hunter Davidson coming out of the inning with a 6 run lead.    Sound pitching by Jeff St. Pierre and Ryan Jones kept Napanee off the board until the 3^rd when Matt Davis scored their only run on Reid Russell’s sac fly to centre field.  Closer Brandon Griffen quickly dashed any hopes of the Express getting back in the game; final score was an impressive 12-1 victory for the Jacks.

The Clippers would be Port Perry’s first opponents of the second day as once again Jeff St. Pierre got the start striking out 11 of the 19 batters he faced and allowing only 2 runs on 2 back to back hits by Josh Maguire and Josh Jescke.  Ryan Jones finished off the Clippers in the 6^th with a little help from outfielder Patrick Fiorino by way of a great catch in centre field.  The Jacks picked up their first run in the 2^nd when Brandon Griffen tripled to right field and Jeff St. Pierre sacrificed to get his first RBI of the game.  Three more runs crossed the plate in the 4^th on a couple wild pitches and another sacrifice fly.  In the 5^th Clayton Robinson and Cody Till’s singles allowed Kyle Dickson to pick up 2 RBIs in the game giving the Jacks a 7-4 victory.

The finals would see the Lumberjacks once again meeting up with the Napanee Express.  The Express decided to go with their number two pitcher righty Matt Davis. The Jacks scored early as Matt Reid’s single to right field scored their first run of the game.  The Express came back in the 2^nd when power hitter Brett Milligan crushed a mammoth home run to centre field tying up the game.  The Jacks added 3 more in the bottom of the 6^th on a few infield errors by Napanee.
