Posted Jul 7/12 - Bisek Baffles Outlaws & Team Effort Leads to Split

(Pictured: Troy Appel singles in the 6th inning Sunday against Eden Prairie.)

Al Bisek and Veseli spank Outlaws, who rebound with a solid team victory in nightcap...

A weekend with limited bodies and arms, the Outlaws somehow put 9 guys together and headed for Veseli.

Outlaws -1 / Veseli - 11

Not much of a story to this game other than Al Bisek.  Albie pitched a complete game for the Veseli Vulcans giving up six hits and striking out one.  Al did a great job of pitching out of trouble even escaping a bases loaded jam in the top of the 1st inning by inducing a 5-4-3 double play.  Al also swung the hot stick by going 2 for 3 on the offensive side for the Vulcans.

Josh Noble was back in uniform for the Outlaws going 1 for 3 leading the game off with a double off the center field fence.  Ryan Meyer continued his hot streak at the plate with a 2 for 3 performance and a stolen base.  Troy Frtiz had two walks and scored the only Outlaw run in the 5th inning on an RBI single off the bat of Jeff Appel.  Appel finished the day 1 for 3 with the sole RBI.  Mike Roth and Pat Nelson were also 1 for 2 with each adding a walk.

Pat Nelson took the loss on the hill for the Outlaws pitching 3 innings and then giving way to Mike Roth.  Other than Pat no Outlaw pitcher had seen time on the hill in their lifetime.  This was Mike's debut on the bump and he looked so good he was asked to start the second game of the double header an hour and a half later.  If you know Mike you know he said yes...and that's just what happened.

Eden Prairie - 5 / Outlaws - 8

Mike Roth picked up right where he left off as he took the mound against a first place Eden Prairie team.  In fact in his first start of his lifetime Roth cruised through the first 4 innings striking out 2 and keeping the Lions Tap hitters scoreless.

The Outlaws wasted no time in giving Roth a lead to pitch with as they scored twice in the home half of the first.  Yes...you heard me right.  The Outlaws were actually the home team for only the 2nd time in the 2012 season.  The 1st inning rally started when Roth helped his cause with a two out double.  Troy Fritz followed Roth with a walk.  Travis "Shooter" Schuett then drove both runners in with a 2 RBI single.

(The book is royal messed up at this point and it's really hard for me to figure out exactly how this went down, but I'm going to do my best.)

The game remained 2-0 Outlaws heading into the 5th inning.  Eden Prairie rallied back and took a 3-2 advantage as Roth began to tire.  Mike did get the first out of the inning on a pop up but left the game with the bases loaded.  Travis Schuett was pressed into action.  What a spot for another Outlaws pitcher to be when he has never pitched in his life.  Trav handled the pressure brilliantly after walking one hitter and striking out another, he secured the third out on a ground out and helped limit the damage.

The Outlaws bottom of 5 started with a Pat Nelson walk followed by two more Outlaws reaching.  Ryan "Ryno" Meyer then tied the game at 3-3 with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Eden Praire once again took the lead in the top of 6 scoring 2 more runs and jumping up 5-3.  With two outs Shooter gave way to Troy Appel.  Prior to the game when Troy was warned he might have to pitch he responded by saying that we would have to find him first.  The promise of hiding wasn't kept however and Troy reluctantly took the hill in the bases loaded mess of a situation.  It has been many moons since Appel had thrown in a game and it took one batter to find the strike zone.  He then ended the Lions Tap rally by striking out the next Tap hitter, ending the bases loaded jam.

With one out in the home half of the 6th Troy Appel helped his cause by lining a single down the left field line.  His brother Jeff Appel followed with a walk.  One hitter later they both scored on a triple over the center fielder's head.  Josh Noble then helped the Outlaws recapture the lead with an RBI double.  Ryan Meyer then joined the party with an RBI triple of his own, driving in Noble and extending his hit streak to 5 games.  Mike Roth followed suit driving in Meyer with a single to left.  When it was all said and done the Outlaws were on top 8-5 heading into the 7th.

Troy Appel looked like an old pro as he slammed the door shut on the Lions Tap.  Appel struck out the last two Eden Prairie hitters with two runners on and secured the win.

Tidbits- A complete team effort to pull off the victory in this one.  Many Outlaws players were asked to play positions they either haven't played in their lifetime of baseball, or hadn't played in many, many years.  Mike Roth summed it up with this post game comment, "I've played baseball for a long time and I have never, ever, been a part of a more total team effort than I was in this game today.  Everyone played a major role."  Mike's sentiment was shared by all the Outlaws players involved.  What a fun day indeed!
