NUTANA, SK: If the Cardinals want to succeed this year they will have to find a way to beat the Jays. The defending Provincial champion Jays scored two runs in their half of the first and held on to an easy 8-2 win in the Mother's Day matchup. Both teams got a good look at their pitching staff as a total of 14 pitchers took to the mound. Overall, the Cardinals defence played well, but their bats had a hard time finding the ball. "We didn't really hit at all," Cardinals rookie Coach Greg Krawchuk said. "That was a pretty lacklustre performance at the plate."
The Cardinals have today off before opening the season tomorrow with a game against Humboldt (Nutana 6:00).
