NUTANA, SK: On Thursday the Saskatoon Cardinals went 2 for 5 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 base runners in a 9-3 loss to the Jays. The Cardinals have now lost 4 in a row and have a record of 3-4.
“We have seen some clutch hits at times, but on a consistent basis, we aren’t getting it done,” assistant coach Darren Crilly said. “Easy to talk about but tough to execute and pull off.”. The big hits avoided the Cardinals after the third inning when they scored all three of their runs. “Of course, you’ll be upset when you’re not driving runners in when they’re in scoring position and we’ve had trouble with that all season,” Crilly said. “But it’s still early. We have guys who can hit in the clutch.”
Nolan Machibroda started the game allowing one unearned run in three innings while Graham Forrester allowed 6 unearned runs over three innings.
On Tuesday, the Cardinals started well, but then errors got the best of them as they watched Humboldt walk away with a 5-4 victory. The highlight of the game for the Cardinals was a 3 run shot by Shawn Lewis. The Cardinals pitched Ryan Olchoway, Dallen Erickson and Bryce Libke in the loss.
The Cardinals now head west to play in the prestigious St. Albert Invitational Tournament.
