Ivan's baseball/softball career began in 1984 at the age of 12 when he joined Little League Baseball at Bodger Park in Lawndale, CA.   His team were the Pirates where he played mostly outfield. That year, Ivan had one memorable game where he finished 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, a triple, and a double. "I remember being at the plate for my second at bat. I looked behind me to where my parents were sitting. Told them this next one was for them.  Amazingly, I hit my 2nd homerun." recalls Perez.  At the end of the game, the league president autographed the game ball for Ivan.

In 1985 he joined the Cardinals where he played Pitcher and 2nd base.  His claim to fame that year was being called in to pitch in extra innings against the Royals, who were the dynasty team in those days.  Ivan managed to strike out the next 4 out of 6 batters to keep the Royals scoreless for two innings.  The Cardinals eventually won the game in the bottom of the 9th inning, eliminating the Royals from the playoffs.

While in the United States Marine Corps, Ivan had the opportunity to participate in a few recreational softball leagues in Memphis, TN....El Toro, CA....and Iwakuni, Japan.

It is now 10 years and 35 extra pounds later....but he is back ladies and
gentleman.....back for some more softball action.
