Shayla, a member of the 2010 Diamond Queens, excels in athletic abilities and in academics.
This year, she was named to the 2011 first team all-NCAC Conference and finished number nine in the senior class of more than 200 students.
As a junior at East Fairmont High School, she was inducted into the National Honor Society, English Honorary Society and Social Science Honorary Society.
While being enrolled in honors and AP courses, she maintained a 4.25 GPA.
A multiple-sport athlete, Shay has lettered in softball throughout her high school career and also has lettered in volleyball.
She was named to the All-Mon Valley First Team and to the NCAC First Team as a sophomore. In her freshman year, she was second in her conference for RBIs.
Shay has displayed her abilities not only in right and left field, but also at second, short and third, making her a seasoned, all-around player. She also is strong in the batter's box.
After graduation, she plans to play softball at the collegiate level while majoring in chemistry, enroute to a career as a pharmacist.
