Red Tide 7th Grade (2021) go 3 and 0 in the Sprectrum Elite Showcase

Roanoke, VA - In their second tournament of the year, the Class of 2021 (7th grade) kept things rolling right along by defeating the West Virginia Express,  Lady Buffaloes and the FC Celtics.  Next up for the Tide is the Black Widows tournament.

Red Tide 7th Grade (2021) go 3 and 0 in the Red Tide Veteran's Day Classic

Hampton, VA - What a great way to start of the season by playing in your own tournament.  The Tide did just that and also bought in some powerhouse progams to start things off. In the opening game, the Tide squared off against Team Sol who traveled down from Maryland and the Carolina Flames who traveled up from North Carolina.  The New Jersey Sparks also came down from Jersey to be apart of the one day bump.   The Tide got off to a good start of the season by winning all three games.  Next up is the Spectrum Elite Showcase in Roanoke.

Red Tide 8^th Grade (2019) Wins the US Junior Nationals

Washington DC – Fresh off their 8^th place finish at the 2015 AAU Nationals in Orlando Florida, the Tide did not miss a beat as they continued with their spectacular play going 8 and 0 at the USJN.  After two overtime wins, it was destined for the Tide to bring home the 1^st place trophy as they capped off a dream season winning the 2015 US Junior Nationals.  Congratulations to the players and coaching staff on a job well done this year. 

Red Tide 8^th Grade (2019) finishes 8^th in Nation at AAU Nationals.

Orlando, FL - The Red Tide had one goal all year long: Win the AAU Nationals.  Coach Key Boyd knew from the beginning of the season that his team would be primed and ready for the journey that was ahead for his team.   After repeating as the three time State Champions of Virginia, the girls set their sights on what had eluded them at last year’s AAU nationals – winning the National Championship.  Well, the girls got off to a flying start as they opened up pool play against the Host team of the tournament (FL KA Lady Nightmares).  It was indeed a nightmare for the host team as they trounced 65 to 12 by the Tide.  In the second game of Pool Play, the Tide were matched up against the Crossfire team from Minnesota.  Crossfire proved to be a formidable foe as they handed the Tide their first loss of Pool play wining 41 to 32.  The Tide quickly refocused and got back on track winning the third game of Pool play against the Georgia Pistols 66 to 48 advancing the Tide to the Sweet and I do mean Sweet 16.  The Tide were laser focused in this game as they handed the CBC Elite team a big “L” winning 58 to 42 advancing them to the Elite 8.  The Tide knew the matchup in the Elite 8 game against the Mavericks from Arizona would be a barn burner.  In this nail bitter, the Mavericks edged out the Tide 68 to 60 and ended the dreams of winning the National Championship.   Nevertheless, all the hard work and determination paid off for the Tide this year as the finished 8^th in the Nation.  What a remarkable accomplishment for this team.  The Red Tide organization is proud the players, coaches and parents for this outstanding achievement.  Next up for the Tide is the US Junior Nationals in Washington DC.

Red Tide 9^th Grade (2018) are the 2015 Big Shots Premier Champions

Myrtle Beach, SC – It wasn’t a vacation at the beach as the Tide meant business as they rolled on to win the2015 Big Shots Premier Championship.  Congratulations to players and coaching staff for the outstanding performance.

Red Tide 6^th Grade (2021) take home the Gold in the 2015 Xplosion Summer Slam

Virginia Beach, VA – Congratulations to the 6^th to the Tide for winning 1^st place in the 2015 Xplosion Summer Slam.  Awesome job to the players and Coaches for getting the job done. Next up is the Rose Classic in Raliegh, NC. 

2015 U-Turn Pre National Showdown

Richmond, VA - It was another stellar weekend performance for the Red Hot Red Tide 10th grade team as they went undefeated in the 2015 U-Turn Pre Nationals Showdown in Richmond, VA.  Even though the Tide was without their head Coach, who was out of the country, the Tide did not miss a beat as they rolled on to bring back home the gold.  Great job to the assistant coaches and players for holding it down. 

 

2015 C.Vivian Stringer Weekend Shoot-Out

Piscataway, NJ - Congratulations to Coach Ken Boyd and his 2019 sqaud as they went 4 and 0 in the 2015 C.Vivian Stringer Weekend Shout-Out.  It was business as usual as the team traveled first class via a chartered bus to Piscatway, NJ. The Tide got off the bus rolling as they steamed rolled all of thier opponents enroute to a undefeated weekend.  The Tide are now getting ready for the Super Showcase, the USJN and the USJN Fall Finale.

2015 Neptunes National Warmup

Virginia Beach, VA - Congratulations to Coach KJ and the 6th Grade Silver Team for winning the 2015 TYO Neptunes National Warmup tournament.  The Red Tide girls went undefeated beating The Virginia Beach Heat and Pennisula Primetime.  Great job to the coahing staff and players. Keep up the good work.

Columbia, MD - Red Tide was in the house as serveral teams brought home medals in the prestigious MAGIC invitational sponsored by NBA referee Scott Foster.  Our 5th grade team coached by Denita Hamlett brought home the gold medal in the 5th Grade B Division by going undeated all weekend long.   Coach Kip Sutton and his 7th Grade Red Tide girls brought home the gold medal in the Silver Bracket of the 7th Grade A division.  Coach Ken Boyd and the 8th grade girls lost in an overtime thriller to the Matrix (Black) 48 to 47 to bring home the Silver medal in the 8th Grade A division.  Great job as always to the coaches and players for displaying great sportsmanship and playing hard.

2015 Virginia State Tournament

3 State Champions Crowned

Hampton, VA – It was a great day for the Red Tide Organization as three State Champions were crowned in the Virginia District Championships at the Boo Williams Sports Plex.  The 6^th, 8^th and 9^th grade teams all walked away with gold medals draped around their necks after the weekend long Virginia State tournament commenced. Our 8^th grade team, nick-named the Resurrection by Coach Ken Boyd,  won their 3^rd consecutive State Championship by defeating BWSL Richmond in a heated cross town rivalry game.  BSWL Richmond did not have an answer to the well-oiled Red Tide machine as the Tide rolled on to a 53 to 42 victory.  The 6^th Grade team coached by Darryl Moore had one thing on their mind the entire weekend – PAYBACK.  Coming off earlier close losses to Crossover, James River and Norfolk Xpress in past tournaments, the Tide were now fully loaded as player’s injuries were now healed.  Even though seven players were suited, the Tide took no prisoners as they went undefeated the entire weekend and beating Norfolk Xpress in the Championship game 50 to 40.  The 9^th grade team coach by Leon Kelly was in beast mode the entire weekend as they steam rolled all of their opponents in pool play.  The championship game proved to be an instant classic as it took two overtimes to send BWSL Richmond packing 44 to 42.  Also, a hearty congrats goes out to our 7^th grade team coached by Kip Sutton as they were edged out by 4 points in an exciting heart pumping championship game.  Great job Coaches, players and parents.  Now it’s time to get ready for the AAU Nationals and Exposure tournaments.   Roll Tide

2015 Boo Williams Club Invitational

Hampton, VA - $3000.00 for the top club who earned the most points from their team wins was at stake.  Our Red Tide girls came only three points shy of taking home the top cash prize, however, it was still a great weekend for the teams as the 7th  and 8th grade teams both came in 1st place.  The 6th grade Gold team took home second place honors. With the combined wins, the program earned the $2000 second place prize money to be spilt amonst the competing teams.  Next up for the Red Tide is the 2015 Super Regional Tournament scheduled for the weekend of March 28th and 20th.

Mayberry Classic 2015 

Mt. Airy, NC – It was a great weekend for the Red Tide program as 2 champions and 1 runner were crowned.  The 8^th grade girls’ team won the Gold Division 1 1^st place award by defeating the Triangle Tarheels in a hard fought battle.  The 7^th grade girls brought home the gold in the Division 1 Silver bracket by defeating the KY Premier from Knoxville, TN in a back and forth battle.  The 6^th grade girls brought home 2^nd place in the Gold division losing to a very talented Carolina Flames by 1 point a very heated battle.  Our 4^th and 5^th grade teams both played very well and are looking forward to the challenge again next year.  Next up, all the Red Tide teams return home for the Boo Williams Club challenge in Hampton, VA.

6th Grade Red Tide are the NTBA National Champions

Myrtle Beach, SC – Congratulations to Coach Tiffany Weathers and her 6th Grade basketball team as they won the 2014 National Travel Basketball Association National Championship by defeating Black Rock Fury (A) 46 to 16.  Although the Tide started off slow by losing their first game of the tournament, they quickly got it going be steam rolling the rest of their opponents to make it to Championship game.  It was pure jubilation as the tide hoisted up the crystal trophy to claim the championship. Great job coaches, players and parents.

2014 C. Vivian Stringer Weekend Team Shoot-Out

 

 

Piscataway, NJ – On the road again.  This seems to be the motto of this power house Red Tide 7^th Grade team.  Last week, Ellicott City Maryland for a tournament, this week, Piscataway, NJ for the C. Vivian Stringer Weekend  Team Shoot-Out.  AAU teams from all over the Northeast poured into the Louis Brown Athletic Center, home of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, to demonstrate their skills on the hardwood.  Coach Ken had his troops roaring and ready to go as they traveled first class on the charted bus to Piscataway.   It was an awesome weekend as the Tide went undefeated winning all their games.  Great job coaches and players, now it’s time to get ready for the Elite 64 in Hampton.   

2014 Widow Maker Classic

 

Hampton, VA – It was another great day for the Red Tide as two champions were crowned in the 2014 Widow Maker Classic sponsored by the Black Widows.   Coach Leon Kelly’s 8^th grade team played up in the 9^th grade division going 4 and 0 in pool play defeating BWSL 56 to 28, the Lady Ballerz 63 to 25, James River Blaze 44 to 30, and the Severn Lady Lighting 64 to 21.  The Tide played hard all weekend long with only 6 players on the roster.  In the Championship game, the Tide kept it rolling by defeating the James River Blaze 35 to 23.    Our 9^th Grade team coached by kip Sutton also played up in the 10^th grade division  going  4 and 0 in pool play by defeating the Black Widows 71 to 33, The  Lady Neptune’s 54 to 6, Hoop Nation 47 to 20 and Team Excel 55 to 49.  In the championship game, the Red Tide excelled over Team Excel to bring home the championship trophy and gold medal.  Great Job coaches and players, way to keep the Tide rolling.

Hampton, VA - The 2014 3rd Annual Red Tide Memorial Day Classic was yet again a success as over 90 boys and girls teams registered for the tournament.  Teams from all over the East Coast converged on the Boo Williams Sportsplex to display their skills on this great Memorial day weekend to honor our US troops were killed in action. All of the Red Tide family of teams participated in the 3 day tournament.  Our 5th , 7th and 8th grade teams all won their championships and our 6th grade team finished in 2nd place.   We would like to sincerely thank all of the teams for participating in the 201 4 Red Tide Memorial Day Classic and we hope that your team or organization enjoyed the experience and will join us again next year.

Back to Back Virginia State D1 Champs!!

 

Congratualtions to the Back to Back Division 1 State champions Boo Williams 7th grade Red Tide girls basketball team.  The Power house Red Tide Pride had thier eyes on the gold medal from the open tap of the tournament as they put out the Blaze of the James River Blaze defeating them 69 to 42. Next up for the Tide to close out pool play was the Spotsy Sting.  Let's just say the Tide took the sting out of the Sting defeating them 62 to 38.  This victory gave the 2 and 0 Tide the number one seed going into bracket play which would eventually pair them up against a rekindled James River Blaze.  The Tide made sure they put the Blaze out for good this time handing them a 56 to 32 defeat.  The championship game would pair the Tide up against thier sister team from Richmond, VA (BWSL Richmond).  Although the Tide got off to a slow start, the Tide started rolling in as they went on to defeat BWSL Richmond 51 to 44.  Congratulations to Coach Ken, Coach Shawn and the girls for winning Back to back championships.

2014 Super Regional Champions

 

 

Hampton, VA - The thrill of victory was in the air as the 5th, 6th and 7th grade Red Tide teams brought home the gold in the 2014 Super Regionals.   All three teams went undefeated the entire weekend as they played the Red Tide brand of basketball of working hard and accepting nothing less. The chant of Red Tide could be heard throughout the entire building as the coaches placed the gold medals around the girls necks.  Next up for the Tide is the 2nd Super Regional scheduled for the end of March.  Great job teams, lets go and do it again.

2014 6th Annual Neptune Bash as the Beach

Virginia Beach , VA - The Red Tides were running on all cylinders as the 5th, 7th and 8th grade teams all went 3 and 0 respectively in thier games.  The 5th grade team came out playing aggressive defense through out the entire tournament only allowing an average of 8 points per game on defense.  The 7th grade team (West Coast National AAU Champions) looked in mid season form as they steamed rolled though all of their opponents.   The 8th grade team debuted thier new custom uniforms and looked as equally impressively on the floor as well.  The teams are tuning up for March Madness as it is right around the corner.  The entire Red Tide family of teams will be traveling to Mayberry North Carolina to participate in the March 1st and 2nd Mayberry Classic.  Stay Tuned in......Roll Tide

2013 Red Tide 3rd Veterans Day Classic Tournament

 

The Third Annual Red Tide Veterans Day classic turned out to be a huge success once again.  Teams from all over the region came to showcase their talents as they officially kicked off the 2013-14 AAU season. All of  the Red Tide teams (8th grade and below) participated in the tournament.  It was the very first tournament for the newly formed 4th grade team coached by Denita (D-Hamm) Hamlett.  The Baby Tide came ready to play as they came out firing on all cylinders defeating Peninsula Primetime and the Black Widows in convincing wins.  Congrats Coach D-Hamm, keep up the good work that you are doing with the girls.

 6th Grade (2019) Wins the 2013 West Coast D1 National Championship

Las Vegas Nevada - Once again, the Tide has risen! Red Tide- 2019 went out in style by attending their final tournament of the 2012-2013 season in Las Vegas, Nevada- The West Coast Nationals! The Tide rolled into Las Vegas and flooded the competition. At the conclusion of the 4-Day Tournament, Red Tide-2019 walked away 5-0 and with the title of West Coast National Champions. In order to get to the Championship, the Tide had to face and defeat competition from Utah (XSI Stars), Los Angeles (Lil Ladyz), Las Vegas (Vegas Bulldogs) and Seattle (Rotary Lady Style)! On Championship day, the Tide faced the fan favorite Lady Jets from Dallas, Texas coached by NBA player, Jason Terry (Brooklyn Nets). The Tide, ready for the challenge, scored first and jumped up on the Lady Jets 11-2 and NEVER trailed! The largest lead of the game was 19 points before Jason Terry's Lady Jets staged a late 2nd half comeback. The game became very physical and intense as the Lady Jets closed the lead to 4 points with less than 2 minutes left; however, the Tide showed poise, confidence, self-control and exceptional Basketball IQ as they made several key defensive plays and free throws in the end.. By game's end, the Lady Jets had "crashed and burned". Final score- Boo Williams Red Tide 45 Lady Jets 39.
This was a fitting end to a medal-filled season for these young ladies. During the 2012-2013 season, these ladies won 2 Super Regional Championships, the Division 1 State Championship, ranked #11 in the Nation as they tied for 11th place in the 6th Grade Division 1 National Tournament (Hampton, Virginia) and their latest accolade- West Coast National Champions! Surely there is more to come from this talented group of student athletes. The Tide . . . . . Always Rises!

4th Grade (2021) Wins the 2013 Widow Maker Classic

Hampton, VA – Fresh off their last tournament win in the Red Tide Classic, the 4^th grade Red Tide were looking forward to participating in their second tournament of their short season.  The Tide got off to a great start by beating both of the 4^th Grade Black Widows teams in the first two games of bracket play.  In  the most anticipated game of the day, the Red Tide were up against Team Crossover who were blowing out all of their opponents in their first two games of bracket play.  The Red Tide were up for the challenge as both teams traded blow for blow and at the end of three quarters the score was tied at 21 points apiece.  Team Crossover turned up the heat in the fourth quarter causing multiple turnovers to seal the victory.  In bracket play, the Tide were up against the Black Widows who were hungry to move on.  “The Tide Always rises” is the motto for the Red Tide originization, and that’s exactly what they did in defeating the Black Widows to move on to the Championship game.  The Championship game would be the much highly anticipated rematch between Team Crossover and the Red Tide.  Before the game, the girls had the eye of the tiger as they listened carefully to all of the pregame adjustments made by thier coaches.  From the opening tap, the Red Tide played with vigor as Team Crossover could not get into a rhythm.  The Tide played with energy for four quarters as they went on to win the championship game taking home the Gold.  Great job Coaches and players and we can’t wait to see you in your next tournament.

7th Grade (2018) Wins the 2013 Widow Maker  Classic

Hampton, VA – In preparation for the USBA Nationals, the Red Tide 7^th grade girls were excited about playing in the 2013 Widow Maker Classic. The Tide got off to a great start by going undefeated in pool play.  Things really got rolling in the first game of bracket play as the Tide defeated the tournament host team (Black Widows) 55 to 19.  In the Championship game, the Tide knew they were up against a formidable foe (Team Crossover) who they defeated in a tough fought battle in the opening game of Pool Play.   In the first quarter, Team Crossover came ready and prepared to play as the Crossover coaching staff made the necessary adjustments.  The Tide girls were up for the challenge as the Tide gained the momentum and pulled to a 15 point lead midway through the 3^rd quarter.   The scrappy group from Richmond was not ready to throw in the towel as the rallied back to cut the lead to six points.   The Tide was able to withstand the run from Crossover by making all of their free throws down the stretch to win the game 39 to 33.  Great job Coaches and players and hope that you will bring home the gold at the USBA Nationals.

4th Grade (2021) Wins the 2013 Red Tide Spring Classic

Hampton, VA – Congratulations to our newly formed 4^th grade team as they won their very first tournament by defeating the extremely talented Norfolk Express 3^rd grade team in the championship game.  It was an amazing come from behind win as Shikira Perry hit the game winner with 3 seconds left in regulation.  The girls were pumped up for the whole tournament as the chant “What Time is it, its game time” could be heard throughout the Boo Williams Sportsplex before every game they played.  Great job to the Coaching staff and players for a job well done.   Red Tide Pride….

6th Grade (2019) Wins the 2013 Virginia State D1 Championship

 

Hampton, VA - Congratulations to our 6th Grade Red Tide Basketball team for winning the 2013 D1 Virginia State Championship.  The "Tide Always Rises" is the slogan Coach Ken Boyd came up with for this year's theme for the team and the Tide definitety rose to the occassion as they dethroned last years D1 State Champion Louden Tripple Threat 46 to 26.   This year's State tournament has been marked on Coach Boyd's calendar for some time now.  All of the hard work the girls have put in over the summer and traveling to Maryland to play against older teams has definitely paid off.  The Tide now have their sights focused on  competing in the 2013 AAU D1 Nationals  as they will be the host team for the tournament which will be played in Hampton Virginia at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.  Congratulations to the players, coaches and parents for a job well done.  Keep up the hard work and bring home the gold in the Nationals.  The Tide Always Rises....

7th Grade (2018) Wins the 2013 Virginia State DII Championship

Fredericksburg, VA - Congratulations to our 7th Grade Red Tide Basketball team for winning the 2013 DII Virginia State Championshp.   The Red Tide dominated from the start to the finish by beating the hometown Spotsy Sting in the championship game 43 to 27.  In the four games played, the Tide only had 19 total turnovers as they played smothering defense limiting thier opponents to an avergae of 28 points per game.  Great job players, coaches and parents on a job well done.  The Tide will now prepeare to travel to Mrytle Beach South Carolina to participate in the USBA Natioanls where they placed 3rd last year.  Keep up the hard work ladies and bring back the Gold this time.

5th Grade (2020) Red Tide finish 2nd in the 2013 Virginia State Basketball Tournament 

Hampton, VA- It was another tough loss for Coach Tiffany and her 5th Grade Red Tide team to their arch nemesis (Norfolk Xpress) in the championship game as they were defeated 33 to 20. Our girls played hard against the 2 time defending State Champions but just coud not get over the hump.  Coach Tiffany and her girls are not throwing in the towel as they go back to the drawing board.  Keep your head up ladies, you are to be proud for finishing second in the D1 States.

5th Grade Red Tide bring home the Gold in the New River Valley Tournament

Red Tide's 5th Grade Team went to Christiansburg, Virginia and played up in the 6th Grade Bracket... The team played their hearts out and won the whole championship..... It was a special moment for the team because they played in a Breast Cancer Awreness tournament....We are very proud of this team and their accomplishments...Keep your eyes out for more in the near future.

Christiansburg,VA.  It was a great weekend as the 7th Grade Red Tide traveled to Christiansburg, Virginia to play in the New River Valley Elite Jamfest sponsored by the New River Valley Elite AAU program.  The Tide did not travel with a full roster but they did not miss a beat as several players stepped up their games.  In the first game, the Red Tide faced the host team (New River Valley Elite).  The Tide got off to a good start with great outside shooting and outstanding defense. Jahkeria Bagby scored a game high of 21 points along with 16 boards. Final score, Red Tide 49, NRV Elite 21.  In the second game of the day, the Tide went up against the West Virginia Express.  The Express proved to be a formidable foe as they battled the Tide to the final buzzer.  Red Tide 49, West Virginia Express 41.   In the final game of the day, the Tide were matched up against the host team once again for the tournament championship.    The Red Tide put on a defensive clinic as they held the host team scoreless in the second half of play.  Congrats to all the players and coaches on a great tournament.

2^nd Annual Boo Williams Red Tide Veterans Day Classic 2012

The atmosphere was electric as teams from all over the DMV traveled to Hampton to play in the 2^nd Annual Boo Williams Red Tide Veteran’s Day Classic.  Norfolk Xpress, Spotsy Sting, Lady Warriors, Team SOL, Winchester Rising Stars, Lady Neptune’s, Galaxy, Stafford Express,  Fairfax Stars, and the Lady Southern Neptune’s all fielded competitive teams in the 5^th, 6^th, 7^th and 8^th grade age brackets.  Although it was early in the season, all the teams looked and played in midseason form.  Our very own Red Tide teams performed very well. The 7^th grade team coached by Darryl Moore won all three of their games.  The 6^th grade team coached by ken Boyd won 2 out of their 3 scheduled games.  Thanks to all of the teams that participated in this year’s tournament.

Rutgers Team Camp (June 16-17, 2012)

Looking for an opportunity to make his team better, Coach JJ decided to take his 8th grade (2017) team to the prestigious Rutgers team camp hosted by C. Vivian Stringer.   Coach JJ knew his girls would be tested with every game on the schedule as some of the best teams from the North gathered to test their wills.  Using a substitution pattern of 5 in and 5 out, the Red Tide were able wear down their opponents with an up tempo, high octane defense that had Coach JJ wondering if it was really his team.  With every player giving 100% of their effort over the weekend, the Red Tide were able to defeat the Central Jersey Cardinals, Adidas Team Maryland and the PA Renegades 8^th and 9^th combo team.  During the trip, the Tide also took advantage of an opportunity to tour the Rutgers Women’s Locker Room and to meet former McDonalds All-American and current Rutgers power forward, Chelsey Lee.  Chelsey informed the girls about college life as a player and what college coaches are looking for in players wanting to get an athletic scholarship. With a great showing at the Rutgers Team camp, the Tide hope to keep the momentum going into the US Junior Nationals in July.   Coach Jay would like to thank his Assistant coaches (Jay Keys & Andrea Faircloth) for their outstanding support and also all of the parents that were able to make the trip a success! 

 

 

Jessica Breland WNBA Bound

 

Congratulations to former Red Tide player Jessica Breland for being drafted in the 1^st round as the number 13^th pick in the 2011 WNBA draft.   Jessica was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx, however she was traded to the New York Liberty.   Jessica also starred at the University of North Carolina where she missed the 2009-10 season due to illness.  She was selected to the 2010-11 ACC All-Tournament First Team and was also the Bob Bradley Spirit and Courage Award winner.  Her other honors included All-ACC Honorable Mention, Rainbow Wahine Showdown All-Tournament Team, ESPN.com Top Five Power Forward In The Nation,  and the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award Candidate.  Jessica attended Bertie County High School, Bertie County, North Carolina. Congratulations Jessica.

 BWSL Redtide 4th Grade(2012) 2012 Super-Regional Champs   

 

Coach "Tee", and her 4th graders played a very physical and very intense 4 games this passed weekend inside the Boo Williams Sports-plex in Hampton, Va. winning the 4th grade Super-Regional Championship. The girls played a well organized offensive set, and zone defense forcing shots from the outside which ended up in the Red-tide girls hands from performing Good-Box-Out rebounding, and forcing the ball down the floor making easy lay-ups, and short jumpers/bank shots. These girls have only been together as a team for approx 8 weeks. But, due to Coach Tee and her Staff of Coaches has very organized practices, and working on teaching the girls Basic Basketball Fundamentals they have come to a good understanding of how to play the game in a more competitive atmosphere very quickly.

BWSL Redtide 5th Grade 2012 Super-Regional Championals

Coach Boyd and his "well-oiled" teamed of fifth graders finish playing last weekend. and walked away with the Super-Regional Championship trophy in their hands. They had to fight a very "pesky" Norfolk Express team that refuse to go away in the Championship game that had a very intense crowd of fans and by-standers watching. But the Red-tide girls was VERY prepared for this, and never let the Express girls get to within 14pts no time doing the game. The girls played a very smart game of basketball, along with being well'ed coached from Coach Boyd from the side-line, and the support players going in and never missing a beat. Good Luck in the up-coming State Championships.

2010-11 Highlights

Christopher Newport University Team Camp (7/16 - 7/17)

 This past weekend the RedTide (Black) competed in the CNU Team Camp. The camp featured High School teams around the state. RedTide was the youngest team in the camp. The girls went 5-2 for the weekend losing twice to a Potomac Falls team that featured 2 upcoming Seniors. Both loses were by 8 points. The Tide throughout the week beat Colonial Beach, Lakeland,York,Parry McCluer, Tabb. By utilizing a newly implemented press Defense the girls worked ferociously to convert turnovers to easy points. This weekend gave the girls great confidence heading into the Jr.Nationals.

         July 9th Select Invitational Champs (7th Grade -2017, Red Team)

The Red Tide 7^th Grade girls went to Richmond to play in a warm-up tournament to get rolling again after a long break.  One quick practice on the Friday before the tournament and then up to Richmond for 3 games. 1st up Team Sol from Maryland. This team is also scheduled to play the USJN Nationals in DC so getting a look at them was important.  The Red Tide started quick with the press but Team Sol fought back and took the halftime lead by 1.  To be expected the team was rusty and made quite a bit of mistakes in that first half.  The second half was different, the coaching staff just decided to go back to basics and the Red Tide imposed their will and won by 13.  Not a good game but a good opening after such a long break.  The 2nd game was against the VABA Bruins. This turned out to be a young team (6th grade) and wasn’t a good matchup.  The girls took it easy and tried to use the game for conditioning and continuing to work off the rust. Final score 37-5. The last game was supposed to be the championship game & with only 3 teams, another game against Team Sol. Unfortunately Team Sol left early and the Red Tide were left without a team to play.  Finally the girls got a matchup, against 6th grade boys.  6th grade boys against 7th grade girls should be a good matchup.  The girls came out on fire and quickly put the crowd that gathered on their side by sprinting out to a 8-0 lead.  Once they got through the initial minutes they imposed their will and pounded the boys 35 to 7 with a running clock.  Without the running clock the score would have been much worse.  Good tourney for the girls and a first step in getting ready for the USJN Nationals July 24 to 28th. 

 

 

 

Red Tide 7th Grade (Black) wins the Tidewater Wildcats Invitational (June 18th,19th)

This past weekend The RedTide 7^th Grade (Black) team played in the Tidewater Wildcats Tournament. The Red Tide went 4-0 in pool play. The girls showed that they are grasping the skills sets the coaching staff has been teaching them. In the championship game RedTide played the Norfolk Xpress, a team the Tide beat twice in pool play. The saying goes that it is hard to beat a team three times in the same season but how about in the same weekend? That is what the girls had to overcome in the championship game.  At the end of the first quarter the game was tied 7-7. The girls were very nervous being that this was their first Championship game together as a team. At the beginning of the 2^nd quarter the girls settled down and used their defense to convert easy baskets to take the lead going into the half. The Xpress were not going to go down easily as they too wanted to win the game. But our girls, for the most part, maintained their poise to come out victorious 50-45. Congrats to both teams on a valiant effort.  After the game, Coach Butts credited his assistant coaches ( Jay Keys and Kevin Purnell) who have put in a lot  position work with the girls this past season.  The coaching staff should really be proud of the progress that the girls are making.  The Team still has a long ways to go of achieving thier goal of becoming thinkers of the game, but as Coach Ken Boyd states “Nothing can substitute time.” He is exactly right with continued hardwork and commitment to the fundamentals, Coach Butts believes that his girls will see themselves successful  more often in the future years to come. Congrats to you ladies you deserved to be Champions!

 Red Tide 7th Grade (2017) goes 3-1 in C.Vivian Stringer Tournament in NJ (June 4th and 5th)

 

The Red Tide took the long drive to New Jersey this past weekend to play in the Rutgers' and Coach Stringer's 1st of two team tournaments this month. Considering that this Red Tide team has never played against teams from up North, the Tide was looking forward to seeing the level of competition that awaited them.  Unfortunately, the Tide would be missing three players, two of the missing are starters..  Coach Ned reminded his players that “We have never been a team of 1 or 2 stars”.  And it was definitely on display this weekend!  Saturday's 1st game was against an expected tough opponent, the Long Island Lightning.  The Tide came right out and made a statement with a stifling defense and beat the lightning 62-15.  The Tide forced their typical high number of turnovers with their 8 man rotation which resulted in easy buckets.  The Tide scouted their next opponent (Boston Showstoppers) and knew this game would be a lot tougher than the first game.  The Showstoppers 8th grade team had great size and solid ball handlers.  The Tide came out strong and made it known despite their lack of size and numbers they would not back down!  The Tide battled hard against the Showstoppers and forced them into 33 turnovers. Despite not shooting well at the foul line, the Tide withstood the Showstoppers runs and held on for a 44-37 signature win!

Sunday started with an early game against the Showstoppers' 7th grade team, a 4th place finisher at last year’s AAU Nationals.  In comparrison, the Showstoppers play a similar style to that of the Red Tide, and it was an intense game from start to finish!  The Tide forced the Showstoppers into 33 turnovers as they did with the 8th grade team, but unfortunately, they were not able to covert the opportunities and turned the ball over a season high 46 times. Even though the Tide made many runs and were able to pull within 4points with 3 minutes to play, the Tide just couldn't get over the hump and fell 36-46.  The Tide expects to see the Showstopper again at Jr. Nationals in July and can't wait to get another opportunity!  The last game was against a big and fundamental sound team from NJ, the Jersey Sting.  From the opening tipoff, the hangover from the previous game was apparent and the Tide came out flat and with no energy.  However, it was apparent, the Sting came to ready play and made the Tide pay for their poor play. Right out of the gate, the Sting controlled the game and had a 6 point lead at the half.  The beginning of the 2nd half was much the same and no matter what Red Tide personnel was on the court, they just didn't seem to have it and were down by 11 points with 5 minutes to play.  But this is Red Tide basketball and the girls picked up the energy running a rarely used full court man-2-man Defense, and better movement offensively.  The stage was set and the Red Tide stormed back to take the lead with 30 seconds left! After the Sting made a free throw, it was on to overtime! In spite of more missed layups and free throws, the girls dominated the tempo of overtime and won by 4, 35-31.  A great gut check game and the team showed a lot of heart bouncing back from the earlier loss and the poor play. 

The Tide once again had a great showing especially being short handed.  There were a number of Red Tide players that stepped up and achieved personal bests in steals, blocks, and rebounding.  It was an excellent team effort all around!   

 

 Red Tide 4th Grade (2020)  National Team wins Maryland Flames Tournament (June 4th and 5th, 2011)

The 4th Grade Red Tide traveled to Boyds, MD over the weekend (June 4th & 5th 2011) to compete in the Maryland Flames 2 day "Gettin' Hot" Tournament. The ladies of the Red Tide met against two teams from the Classics organization (Potomac Valley) on Saturday and demonstrated dominance in games they were never in danger of losing. By day's end on Saturday the ladies walked away victorious with scores of 35-17 and 33-11 and awaited to play the Maryland Flames "National" 4th Grade team for the tournament championship. On Sunday, Red Tide started the game with stifling full court pressure defense for the entire first half that left the Flames "smoldering". The Flames returned for the 2nd half and came back "firing" closing the Red Tide commanding lead to a mere 2 points before the Red Tide pulled it together and finished the game "extinguishing" the Flames once and for all with a final score of 22-20. As a result, the Red Tide took 1st place and were awarded individual Gold Medals. Can't Burn The Tide!!!!!!

 

Red Tide Coach named Home School Teacher of the year

Congratulations to our very own Coach Kala Dawson who was recently honored as the Home School Teacher of the Year by the Home School Out of the Box program.  Homeschool Out of the Box is a homeschooling co-op serving Tidewater, VA. Their members come from all over the seven cities and they meet on Tuesdays in downtown Norfolk.  Coach Ka la teaches Beginners and Advanced Chess classes.

 

 

5^th Grade (2019) Red Tide goes 3 and 0 in the Sportsquest Mayflowers Tournament (05/07/2011)

The 2011 Virginia State Champions took their show on the road to Richmond, Virginia to participate the May Flowers basketball tournament sponsored by Sportsquest.   First up for the Tide were the Carolina Hurricanes out of Williamston, North Carolina.  The Tide got off to a good start in the early morning contest using full court pressure defense to cause multiple turnovers which resulted in easy baskets for the Red Tide.  The Red tide played great defense against the hurricanes limiting them to only 5 points in the first half of play.   The play of the day came from Jahkeria Bagby as she stole the ball and drove the length of the floor only to do a 360 layup to finish the play.  The crowd at the Siegel Center went crazy.  The Red Tide went on to win 45 to 13.  Next up for the Tide was the host team from Sportsquest.  The host team proved to be a formidable foe as they played aggressively with the Tide matching bucket for bucket for three quarters.  The Red Tide finally kicked it in to gear in the fourth quarter and pulling out the victory 28 to 17.   The last game of the day was against the Pax River Stars.    Even though it was a blowout victory for the Red Tide, it was not a pretty game to watch as the Red Tide played very sloppy and had one of their worst free throw shooting nights of the season.  Let’s just say we know what Coach Darryl will have the team doing at next practice.  All in all, it was a fun tournament as all the girls were able to play.  Next up for the Tide is the G.E.S.U.S-Neptune Memorial Day Classic on May 28^th / 29^th.

Saturday 4-30-2011

After a long April break, the Red Tide got back into action at VCU's Sigel Center in Richmond.  The two games Saturday and two games Sunday would prove to be challenging since the team would be a bit short handed both days.  For Saturday's games, the Tide had only 8 of the 11 girls.  1st up was the Spotsylvania Sting. Even though the rust was definitely obvious, the team came together with the different lineups and forced the Sting into a team record 50 turnovers.  The team struggled to convert the turnovers but with such an excellent defensive effort the Sting could only manage 8 points. Final score was 41 to 8.  The second game was against "No Limits" from Alexandria, VA. Unfortunately the Red Tide offensive struggles continued.  On top of that, "No Limits" got frustrated and tried to rough up the girls with a bunch of cheap shots which resulted in three flagrant fouls.  The rough play couldn't stop the Red Tide defense, still the corner stone of Red Tide basketball. No Limits coughed up 31 turnovers.  Final score 49-14. 

 

Sunday  5-1-2011

For Sunday's games, the Red Tide was down to 7 girls and a distinct lack of size.  1st up, a rematch with the Chesterfield Aces.  The Aces are a good fundamental team with a solid guard.  The press did it's job and the girls worked hard forcing a new team record of 53 turnovers!  The offense couldn't covert the effort and the game remained within shouting distance even though the team dominated the tempo of the game from start to finish. The 2nd half of the game finally started to take shape and the lead grew to 18 points at the start of the 4th quarter, and finished much too close, 36-25. The victory set up a matchup against the Fairfax Stars in the 2:15 championship game.  The Stars had been blowing out all the other teams by 20 to 30 points and had definitely made an impression in the tournament.  However, instead of getting frustrated with the lack of offensive production in the previous 3 games, the Red Tide were tired of working so hard on D and not converting.  Even though the Stars had a significant size advantage, the Red Tide finally put the offensive with the defense, a tough combination for any team. The game started with 6 consecutive steals and a 10-0 lead.  The Stars were a much better team than the other teams the Red Tide had gone up against this weekend, but the Tide would not be denied and wanted to make a statement.  The Red Tide dominated the game from start to finish, not letting the Stars use their superior sized post players by countering size with speed and forcing 44 turnovers.  Final score 53-18 and tournament champs.  The team's 4th championship to go along with 2 runner-up finishes in 9 tournaments was a great way to open the second half of the season!  Great job.

 

 

The Coaches Corner

Teamwork is a term thrown around on teams but in actuality is very hard to achieve. I have a group of young ladies from different back grounds wanting to play AAU basketball. How do we get there? I asked. One shouted “Team work”. What is team work? Some may define it as a group coming together to reach a common goal. This past year I had to take a group of players and make a team. We started with developing relationships. I need to know the player next to me. I need to know her strengths and weaknesses, her likes and dislikes. So this month we have learned how to pull together, encourage, uplift, we won together and loss together, but we did it as a team. Team work doesn’t only exist on the floor but off the floor. A teammate is a teammate in Wal-Mart, in Church and in school. Whenever I see my teammate I know that we share something special, we were apart of 2010-2011 Red tide 6^th grade girls Boo Williams Team and we are special. This team made history! March 2011 Team work was born now we have to teach it how to survive!

            Does teamwork make you a complete player? NO! Sportsmanship is having pride in what you do. I teach that sportsmanship is taking ownership of ensuring that the essence of the sport lives on. There is no sport than can survive without sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is humbling oneself to know that no one is bigger than the game. Players are going to come and go and the true value on how far you make it in this sport is knowing how to compete, how to win and how to loose. Our team always demonstrates respect by the way they addressed the officials, the coaches, and the opponents that we have faced every time we step on the floor and off. We shake hands before the game and after the game, in spite of what the opponent will say or do! We play this game for God and we play it for the love of basketball not for ourselves, the sport goes way beyond us we display sportsmanship so the sport can live!

Red Tide 5th Grade (2019) wins 2011 Division 1 VA State Championship

The Red Tide started their quest for the Va State Championship Friday March 25th against Richmond’s Sportsquest at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. The Red Tide came out slowly as the starting time of 9PM was around many of the girl’s bedtimes. Still they were up 12-4 at the half.  Sportsquest did not give up and tied the game at 19 with 5 minutes to go in the game. Coach D called time out and the Tide got it together finishing with a flurry and a 31-24 victory.  Next up for the Tide were the Winchester Rising Stars. The girls came to play and started the game on a 17-0 run. The Stars fought back and the girls held on for a 28-24 victory.  In the final game of pool play the Red Tide played a familiar foe in the Norfolk Express. The game was tight throughout with the Xpress up 21-18 at the half. The girls played great D in the second half holding the Xpress to 8 points and finishing with a 39-29 win.  The 3 victories against 0 defeats made the Red Tide the number 1 seed for pool B and a spot in the final 4 for bracket play.  Bracket play pitted the girls against this year’s most fierce rival, Team Evolve, another Boo Williams team based out of Suffolk. In 5 previous meetings the Tide held a 3-2 advantage in victories. The girls came out strong opening an 11-4 lead in the early going. Victory was never in doubt as the girls cruise to a 42-25 win and a spot in the championship game. On a sour note the Red Tide’s leading scorer, Jah’keria Bagby, went down with a twisted ankle midway through the third quarter and did not return.  In the Championship game against the Winchester Rising Stars, Jah’keria started but it was easy to see that she was in serious pain as the Red Tide fell behind 7-1 and 11-4. Jah’keria had to leave the game and the girls vowed to win for her. The girls went on a 12-4 run to end the half holding a 16-15 lead. The game went back and forth throughout the second half until Tonette Washinging and Sydne Caddy started dropping 3 pointers and the Red Tide gained a 4 point lead with two minutes remaining. The Winchestor Rising Stars tried to tie the game in the final seconds but the shot fell short at the buzzer and the Red Tide were AAU Virginia State Division 1 Champions.  Congrats Team on a great State Tournament.

 

Red Tide 7th Grade (2017) Division 1 VA State Runner-Up

The beginning of the week started will with the momentum of the previous week's Super Regional Championship. Friday started with a strong statement game against the James River Blaze. Playing consistent pressure defense the team forced James River into 37 turnovers & overcame poor free-throw shooting to dominate the game and win 37-26. Saturday's 1st game was against Sports Quest and their star player. Playing great team defense the girls limited their 1st option and overcame a tough shooting game from the field to led by 7 going into the final minutes of the game. Unfortunately, a few untimely turnovers fueled a Sports Quest run and the team lost a heartbreaker by 2, 50-48. In spite of the loss, the team served notice and was recognized as the leading team in the 7th grade division. The girls knew they had to rebound in the next game against the rival Black Widows team that always seems to play their best basketball against the Red Tide. The Tide rose to the occasion and lead for most of the game, finishing with a hard fought 1 point win. Sunday's schedule was tough with 3 games starting at 8am. In the 1st game, the girls overwhelmed East Rockingham to a 56 to 31 win. The strange Sunday end to pool play ended with a #2 seed for the Tide & a tough semifinal game against James River, who in spite of losing to the Tide on Friday, rebounded and looked tough against both Sports Quest and the Black Widows, beating the Widows by 20. The Tide took on the challenge and dismantled the Richmond team from the start, forcing 34 turnovers and leading by 22 after 3 quarters, and finally winning the emotion filled game 55 to 43. In the other semi-final, the #1 seeded team (Sport Quest), the Tide ran out of gas and lost to the well rested Black Widows, setting up another final between the two BWSL teams. In spite of playing the best basketball of the tourney, the Red Tide struggled in the final. Clearly the Tides up tempo style of play and the emotional semi-final game had taken its toll. The Black Widows took advantage of some favorable scheduling; being the only team that only played 2 games on Sunday, and took a lead that the Red Tide just didn't have the legs to overcome. The Red Tide finished as the runner-up and #2 team in the state for 2011. The excellent performance throughout the state tournament saw the team finish with every one playing in every game and contributing, along with setting highs in team and individual rebounding and steals. Next up is a well deserved small break and then preparing for travel tournaments on the way to a strong showing at the season ending championships! 

 

2011 Super Regionals (3/18/2011 - 3/20/2011)

Overall this was the best performance from the team throughout the weekend! Friday started with a solid performance against the Suffolk Blazers 59-14. Saturday's late start against the Durham Hurricanes proved to be a solid matchup but we controlled the tempo from start to finish. Unfortunately even though the team forced them into 34 turnovers, the Red Tide shot a season low percentage and couldn't convert the opportunities and lost 39-34.  The team rebounded and took out their frustration with a 70-15 blowout of the Hampton Roads Hurricanes. The 2nd place finish in pool A forced the team into a tough semi-final game against last year's NC state champs, Team Bond. They were undefeated, using their superior size while winning each of their games by 20+ points. The Red Tide came together pressing the entire game and forced them into 32 turnovers while the inside girls boxed out well and had a tournament high 53 rebounds on the way to a hard fault 46-41 win. That win left 1 more game against the new 7th grade Norfolk Xpress team that was on a self-professed "surprised run" into the finals. Even though there is a lot of friendships and history between the 2 teams, it became quickly apparent that the Xpress came to play and led at the half. In the 2nd half Red Tide made a few adjustments and forced the Xpress into 17 turnovers, committed only 6, and took control of the game on the way to a convincing 51-31 win and the team's 1st Super Regional title! With now 3 tournament wins this season (1 against 8th grade teams), and a 2nd place finish, the team is coming together at the right time heading into the State tournament at the end of the month! Great job Coach Ned and team.

 

In other news, the 4th and 5th grade teams both finished in 2nd place in the Super Regionals. Time to get ready for the States.  Good luck to all the Red Tide family of teams.  RED TIDE PRIDE!!!!! 

2011 Super Regionals (3/11/2011 - 3/13/2011)  

"Roll Tide, Roll"! That seemed to be the theme Sunday afternoon (March 13, 2011) for the 4th Grade Red Tide team as the young ladies established defensive dominance over, what appeared to be, an overmatched Norfolk Xpress team. The ladies of the Red Tide left no doubt that they were deserving of the 4th Grade Super Regional Championship as they held the Xpress team to a total of 4 points ( 1 field goal and two free throws). The ladies opened the tournament on Friday (March 11, 2011) with a 30 point victory over the Black Widows and returned Saturday to beat Norfolk Xpress and advance to the Super Regional Championship claiming a 21-4 win. This is the Tide's 2nd championship victory in as many weeks!  Stay tuned for the progression of this group of young and talented ladies. Can't fight the Tide!!!

 

 

 2011 BWSL Mega Tournament (3/4/2011 - 3/6/2011)

The 2011 4th Grade Team coached by Coach Ken Boyd made their debut this past weekend (3/4/2011) truly representing the team name! They rolled into the Boo Williams Sportsplex Friday night like a "red tide" smothering any and everything in their path. This was their first game ever played together; however, the poise of the team suggested they were in "mid-season form".  By night's end and once these ladies of The Red Tide were finished "rolling", the final score was Red Tide 57, Black Widows 0.

The ladies returned on Saturday morning to face a very talented, energetic and scrappy Norfolk Xpress 3rd Grade Team. The Tide were in command of the game right up until the last 5 minutes of the game. The Xpress put in a press that forced careless play from the Tide forcing a very close game! At the end of regulation, the Tide had withstood the pressure defense and won 18 - 16. Saturday's win enabled the Tide to advance to the Championship of the Boo Williams Mega-Tournament. In the championship, on Sunday the Red Tide once again faced the Norfolk Xpress team, but this time they were ready for the "Xpress energy" and pressure defense. The Red Tide claimed the championship with a score of 18 - 10! Congratulations to these hardworking ladies and Coach Ken Boyd, the Red Tide family & fans for not just playing like champions but for conducting themselves like champions! "Can't Stop the Tide"!!!!!!

 

 

 Red Tide 5th Grade (2017) win the Boo Williams 2011 Mega Tournament

 

 

The Red Tide 5th Grade girls went undefeated 5-0 this weekend winning the Boo Williams Mega Tournament at the Sportsplex in Hampton.  The first game on Saturday placed the Red Tide against the Norfolk Express. Even though the girls had just woken up, you couldn’t tell as they jumped out to an early lead. The game was never in doubt and ended with a final of 34-13. The next game was against the Black Widows.  Everyone got into the action as the Tide cruised to a 36-1 victory. The last game of the day was against Team Evolve. Both teams came into the game with a 2-0 record in pool play. The game remained close in the first half then early in the second half the Red Tide started pulling away finishing with a 45-35 victory and a number 1 seed going into bracket play Sunday.  

The Red Tide started bracket play Sunday playing the 4^th seeded Black Widows again. The Red Tide rested the starters and the reserves got in some valuable minutes as they cruised to a 36-5 victory moving on to the championship game.  The Red Tide starters came out hungry in the championship game with a smothering defense going up 11-0 and nearly holding Team Evolve scoreless in the first quarter. Everyone saw playing time as the Red Tide dominated from start to finish with a 33-16 victory and the Mega Tournament Championship. Great Job Ladies! Next up Super Regionals.

 

 .2/19/11- Neptune Showdown 8th grade Division champs, tournament record 3 & 0 

Congratulations to Coach Ned Brown and the 7th Grade Red Tide Team.  In their 1st game of the day, they faced a very tall and talented Charlottesville Lighting Team. The Lighting used their size and the Tide trailed most of game, down by 12 at one point in the game. In the second half the Red Tide press finally kicked in and forced a total of 37 turnovers and Tide took the lead with just over a minute to play and held on to win 32-31.  The 2nd game of the day was against the Red Tide 8th grade team coached by Coach Espinoza.   The 8th grade team jumped to an early lead in the game due to many missed layups by the 7th grade team.   Late in the 1st half, the layups finally started to fall and the younger Red Tide made a run and pulled within 2 at the half, 15-13.  In the 2nd half the 7th grade team took the lead early and maintained a slim margin in a tough game, finally winning 35-31. The last game of the dat was against G.E.S.U.S. Ball. The early struggles were not as rough in this game, but the team did trail 7-2 in the opening minutes. This time, the team didn't wait to turn things around. The Tide took the lead early and didn’t look back, winning 56-27, forcing 34 turnovers along the way.   Great job ladies!!

 

The Coaches Corner

This month, let's meet our 4th grade Coach, Ken Boyd. Coach Boyd began coaching in 1997 with the Woodstock Recreation league for both football and basketball. Coach Ken is a native of Norfolk, Virginia and a graduate of Norview High School, Howard University and the Medical College of Virginia. Coach Boyd has had a passion for basketball since the age of 5 and continues to play weekly pick-up games in various adult leagues throughout the Hampton Roads area.

What's Ken's Team Philosophy

"Success comes before work only in the dictionary".   We are here to teach our players basketball concepts; we intend to have these ladies to learn to think basketball and not act it.  This is important because the game of basketball is so "fluid".  It is bigger than one play!  It flows. Thus, if we can get the ladies to listen with commitment and focus, then their listening will lead to learning and in turn, their listening will lead to winning.   Our other base philosophy is the concept of the acronym T.E.A.M (Together Everyone Accomplishes More).  You can do nothing alone!  Even a golfer needs a caddie, and tennis players need coaches and trainers.  We really stress the we need 5 ladies working together.  I think Booker T. Washington said it best.  "In all things that are purely social, we can be as separate as the fingers, yet one as the hand in all things essential to mutual progress.  If we are to mutually progress, we'll need 5 ladies (the fingers) working as a team (the hand).

Red Tide 8^th Grade Team wins Neptune’s New Year Eve Bash tournament.

Congratulations to Coach Espinoza and his 8^th grade team for going 3 and 0 in the Neptune’s New Years Eve Bash basketball tournament on January 22, 2011.   The Red Tide came out firing on all cylinders and they rolled by the Lady Neptune’s 60 to 23.  Their second game turned out to be a close fought battle against the Hampton Roads Hurricanes.  The Tide were actually up by 15 points at one point in the game, however the Hurricanes fought their way back in to the game but ended up falling short to the Tide by 4 points 51 to 47.  In the last game of the day, the Tide went up against G.E.S.U.S Ball.  This was a scrappy group who played hard until the ending buzzer, however, the Tide was able to come away with another close victory beating G.E.S.U.S Ball 52 to 50.  Congratulations ladies, keep up the good work.
