Due To Rain, The Cobras 2nd Round Game against Continental Diamond has been moved to 4PM on Saturday.

Street Deals, Cobras Top Bloomington 4-2 in Single Elimination

The Cobras advanced to the second round in the 2016 Class A State Tournament with a 4-2 victory over the Bloomington Bandits on Thursday night.  The game was a barn burner, as both teams scraped together runs via small ball and taking the extra base.  Zach Munsterman took the rock for the Cobras and was masterful, throwing 8 innings and keeping the Bandits off balance for the duration.  Matt Borman lead the offensive charge for the Cobras with 3 hits and one mega hit by pitch.  Tyler Adams set the tone with a huge catch in the first inning on a full dive in the gap, lead off the bottom of the first with a single and scored on a Borman single.  Kahtan Al-Kaissy and Jake Krause had RBI singles later in the game in clutch spots.  Alex Gustafson closed out the game with a very Alex Gustafson-like 9th inning...leadoff walk, double play, grounder.

The Cobras celebrated on the hill with Coronitas and bug spray. The mosquitos are all steroid'ed up, so bring the heavy DEET.  The Cobras next game is Saturday against Continental Diamond, the #1 seed from the Skyline League.

Urseth Throws Complete Game Shutout, Cobras Head To State!

The Cobras won their playoff series with the Lyon's Pub Warriors with a 1-0 victory on Saturday.  The game was a classic pitchers duel between the Cobras J.E. Urseth and the Pub's Billy Meister as both threw complete games.  The game came down to two outs in the top of the 9th inning when Kahtan Al-Kaissy blooped a single just past a diving Pub left fielder, scoring Nate Lutmer who was pinch running for Kyle Johnson.  That would be all Urseth and the Cobras would need as they were able to escape a 1 out double in the 9th to close out the victory and clinch a 2016 State Tournament birth.

The Cobras head to the 2016 Class A State Tournament with an opening game against the Bloomington Bandits on Thursday at 6pm.

Street Hucks Gem, Snakes Smash Pub 9-1.  Lead Best of 3 Series, 1-0.

The Cobras played a very sharp game on Thursday Night in the opening game of their 2nd round playoff series with rival Lyon's Pub.  Zach Munsterman took to the bump for the Snakes and threw arguably his best game of the season.  Street finished with a complete game 5 hitter, surrendering only a single run.  Matt Germar's fist pumps could not be contained.

The Cobras kept the hit train running, compiling 14 hits on the night.  Tyler Patterson racked up four RBIs on three hits. He singled in the first and second innings and tripled in the fourth inning before leaving with a hamstring fiasco.  The Snakes tacked on another three runs in the eighth. The inning got off to a hot start when pinch hitter Sam Bunnett singled, bringing home Matt Youngquist.  That was followed up by Gabe MacDonald's single, plating Bunnett.

Sam Bunnett locked up the 2016 pinch hitter of the year award with his performance on Thursday.  Teddy KGB had this to say:

Kids Got Alligator Blood, Can't Get Rid Of Him

The Cobras celebrated in the parking lot with bug spray, fines and some PJ pizza.  Mason invited everyone to his house for a "Crunk Party" while Krause invited everyone over to help plant grass in his back yard.  The Cobras look to sweep the playoff series and head to the State Tournament on Saturday at 2:30pm at Parade.  Come out and support your Cobras.

Cobras Finish League Play 14-4, Earn 2nd Seed in Playoffs.  Will face Lyons Pub in 2nd round. - Series Starts Thursday.

Krause Belts HR? Cobras Top Loretto 7-2

The Cobras won a tune up non-league game with the Loretto Larks on Sunday night by a score of 7-2.  The Cobras were able to sweat out the weekend's booze as they were situated in Loretto's leaning sun dugout.  J.E. Urseth started on the hill for the Snakes, throwing 6 innings below hitting speed.  Chris Code and Nate Lutmer relieved Urseth and were brilliant.  Offensively the Cobras were lead by Sean Borman, who assaulted a pair of baseballs for doubles and was on base each of his 5 plate appearances.  I am not sure if it was heat exhaustion or real events, but Jake Krause hit a solo home run in the 7th innning.  Overall, the game went well and we were greatful to Loretto for having us out.

The Cobras play their final non-playoff game of the season on Tuesday against the St.Anthony Hogs.  Game time is 7:00pm at Palm Park in St. Anthony.

Snakes Finish Week 2-0

The Cobras picked up a pair of league victories this week with a 6-5 win over the Minneapolis MudCats and a 6-0 victory over the Minneapolis River Rats.  The scheduled contest with HitDawg on Saturday was cancelled well in advance of what would have been a rainout.

The Cobras finish up their PNL regular season with a make up game with the Minneapolis Patriots on Monday.  6:15pm at Parade Stadium.

Cobras Go 1-2 in Cold Spring

Quick Game Recaps:

  • Cold Spring 10, Cobras 1 - An 8 run inning via walks made an otherwise good game look horrible on paper.  Femrite dealt.
  • Cobras 12, St. Cloud 2 - Tyler Patterson had 5RBI and the Cobras beat a good Beaudreaus squad handily despite an 18 hour rain delay.
  • Brainerd 3, Cobras 2 - 2 late errors and a walk off home run doomed the Snakes.  Chris Code pitched great.

Your typical Cold Spring weekend with odd things happening.  It was fun overall.  The Cobras turn back to league play on Tuesday vs the Mudcats.

Cobras Outlast Lakers, Walk Off Winners 9-8

A walk-off single from Sean Borman brought home the winning run for Minneapolis Cobras in a 9-8 victory over Minneapolis Lakers at Parade Stadium on Wednesday.  The game was a marathon, starting 30 minutes late, featuring a 30 min rain delay, 9 innings and 17 runs.  The Lakers would get off to a hot start, scoring 7 runs in the first two innings and chasing Cobra starter Nick Kukurich.  The Cobras offense would respond early and often.  The Cobras would scratch back and tie the game at 7-7 in the 4th inning.  The Lakers continued to hit, plating the 8th run in the 5th and putting the pressure back on the Snakes.  In what could have been their final at bat, the Cobras rallied for a run on a big pinch-hit single by Sammy Bunnett.  In the bottom of the 9th the Cobras loaded the bases with no out and one batter later walked off winners courtesy of a Sean Borman single.  There was no mob on Seany as 1) everyone was too tired and 2) that would have upset a happy Seany.   Zach Munsterman was brilliant in relief of Kukurich throwing 7.2 innings of 1 run baseball, striking out 6.  Sean Borman and Kyle Johnson each had 3 hits on the night and 5 combined RBI.

In the parking lot Matt Germar handed out new caps for the Snakes to wear with their flashy white uniforms.  They will make their debut on Friday.  Gabe was fined for no sleeves during warmups and was quoted as saying "was the suns not out?"  No Gabe, the Suns were not.

With the victory over the Lakers, the Minneapolis Angels have clinched the Park National League regular season title.  Congrats to them as they rattled off 9 league victories in a row down the stretch.  The Cobras currently sit in 2nd place with 3 games remaining.  The Cobras travel to Cold Spring, MN for the Nic Bell Classic this weekend.  Rare Pokemon live in Cold Spring.

Cobras Initiate MudCats 16-2

The Cobras won in a blowout on Monday night by a score of 16-2.  Tyler Adams and the Borman brothers lead the way with a combined 9 hits, 8 RBI and lots of beholding.  Matt Borman hit a ball high off the ivy in right field (maxed out), and Matt Germar yelled in triumph as he thought it had cleared the fence.  His defense to the error in eyesight was that he is old and his eyes are bleeped.  Germar started on the hill for the Snakes and survived a somewhat shaky start to go 4 innings and claim the win.  Rains threatened the game multiple times and even included a short delay.  Brandon Budnick threw a scoreless inning in relief and was upset he had to wear sleeves.  Gabe was upset that he got to pinch hit as his "back hurt"...he just pulled landscape duty.

In the parking lot the Cobras celebrated with beers and catching the occasional Pokemon.  The rains came and ended the night early.

The Cobras next game is Wednesday vs the Lakers at Parade Stadium.  8:30pm is the game time.

Cobras Blast Blue Sox 13-0

The Cobras stayed undefeated in July with a convincing 13-0 victory over the Minneapolis Blue Sox on Thursday night.  The rain could not stop the Cobras offense as they quickly set the tone with 12 runs in the first 3 innings.  Kyle Johnson hit a booming 3 run home run to left and had 5 RBI on the night.  Matt Youngquist returned from a 7 day trip to the barber (baby face) and face babied the Blue Sox with 4 hits including a pair of doubles.  J.E. Urseth and Chris Code combined for the shutout on the hill scattering only 5 singles.  Mason Reinhart went 2-2, promptly pulled himself and ordered Papa Johns pizza to the parking lot.  The pizza arrived about 5 minutes after the game ended.  Magic Mike Lenertz showed off some USA themed chest hair.

The Cobras next game is Sunday at Noon vs the Minneapolis Patriots.  It is 40 Day!  Come out and support your Snakes.

Street Deals, Seany Smashes. Cobras Edge Pub 3-2.

The Cobras won a huge Park National League contest on Wednesday against the Lyon's Pub Warriors by a score of 3-2.  Zach Munsterman started on the bump for the Snakes and continued his string of great outings.  The Cobras would get out of a 2nd inning bases loaded no out jam with a Borman-Borman-Johnson 9-5-2 double play.  Sean Borman would open up the scoring for the Kai with a big 2 RBI double to left center.  Happy Seany.  Sean would score on a 2 out error making it 3-0 Cobras.  Munsterman would continue to keep the Pub off balance, allowing only 2 runs in 4.2 innings before giving way to Nick Kukurich who would slam the door (Slodor).  Kukurich was dominant in relief, with 5 strikeouts.

The Cobras reclaimed the Pub/Cobras title belt...and it actually fits around the waist of Zach Munsterman.  He does shop in the youth section.

The Cobras celebrated late into the evening (and morning) and looked forward to Thursday's game against the Blue Sox.

Cobras rained out vs Burnsville

Next game vs Pub on Wednesday.

Cobras Fall 1-0 to Angels

The Cobras lost a close league game 1-0 to the Minneapolis Angels on Tuesday.  Matt Schuld (Angels) and Zach Munsterman were stellar on the hill for their respective clubs.  The Cobras stranded a bunch of guys on base.  Zero points, zero wins.  The Cobras look to rebound after the 4th of July break.

Cobras Go Pear-Shaped in SpamTown Tourney

The Cobras played 13.2 innings of pretty decent baseball this weekend.  Unfortunately they played 21 total innings this weekend.  Saturday at about 11:00AM the wheels fell off.  Beer was drank, KanJam and Beersby was played.  JE and Sammy B got hit in the face by frisbees.  Lenny enjoyed a late night Perkins shake alone with a creepy stache.  Kahtan was hit on by a large woman with a foopah.

The Cobras next game is Tuesday against the Angels at Parade Stadium.  It is their last game before the 4th of July break.

Cobras Lay Egg vs Metro Merchants, Fall 5-4 in 10 Innings

The Cobras dropped a league contest against the Metro Merchants on Monday by a score of 5-4 in 10 innings.  The Cobras offense could not string together hits, and the Cobras defense coughed up 4 unearned runs on the night.  It was not a good day for the Cobra Kai overall.  Game Notes:

  • Nick Kukurich started and threw 4.2 innings, J.E. Urseth threw 4.1 innings in relief.  Neither pitcher allowed an earned run.
  • Things went pear shaped in the 5th inning with a total of 3 errors on consecutive plays.  Toilet.
  • The Cobras tied the game up in the 6th and 9th, down 1 run in each inning.
  • Overall, a tip of the cap to the Merchants pitcher who threw 9 innings...and the Merchants defense who saved a few runs as well.

The Cobras are off until Friday when they begin the annual SpamTown Challenge in Austin, MN.  The first game is at 7pm against the host Austin Greyhounds.

Cobras Beat Elko Express 8-4

The Cobras won a nice Friday night game against the Elko Express on Wine, Women and Baseball Night by a score of 8-4.  Matt Germar started on the hill for the Snakes and threw 6 solid innings allowing only 3 runs while displaying a top tier ephus pitch.  Gabe MacDonald hit a 3-run home run, and used 3-4 swear words per at bat when he did not homer.  Kyle Johnson hit a 2-run bomb as well in game 2 of his quest to recover from the worst hand to groin contact of his life.  Chris Code, Nate Lutmer and Alex Gustafson all threw well in relief.  Germar got the MVP sword postgame.  Like a fine wine, Germar continues to get better with age.  A very very old German wine, with a foul mouth and a nasty temper.

The Cobras next game is Monday against the Metro Merchants, 6:15pm at Parade.  It will be the last game for the Snakes before the SpamTown tourney down in Austin, MN.

Street and Cobras Smash Lakers 9-0

Zach Munsterman threw 5 shutout innings and the Cobras offense took advantage of some Laker mistakes in a vital mid-season league game.  Sean Borman and Matt Youngquist were the offensive heros for the game with a combined 5 hits, 4 RBI and 4 runs.  Happy Seany.  Munsterman, J.E. Urseth and Alex Gustafson combined for the shutout.  In the parking lot, the Cobras took to Facebook live...streaming the first Cobras Court in team history.  Arizona Ace Tyler Beck was on the other side of the live stream...we miss him very much.  The Cobras played KanJam and then were recipients of some great hospitality at Green Mill in Uptown courtesy of JC.

Kukurich Throws Gem, Cobras Shutout Baseball 365 4-0

Nick Kukurich diced and the Cobras swept the season series with 365 on Monday.  Kukrich threw 6 strong innings of shutout ball while striking out 5.  Zach Munsterman came in to pitch in a tight spot in the 7th and in 3 pitches, ended the game.  Offensively, the Cobras were lead by Matt Youngquist who had 2 hits, 2 RBI and a stolen base in honor of his father who tore his ACL on Sunday in Latin League.  Ay Dios Mio!  Get well soon Chuck!  As stated earlier, the Cobras pitching was the story, as 365 never really threatened in the game until late.  The Cobras took advantage of a fielding meltdown by the 365 3rd baseman in the 6th to plate 2 big insurance runs.

Cobras Top Patriots 4-2

The Cobras won a close game on Thursday against the Minneapolis Patriots by a score of 4-2.  Sean Borman had two big RBI for the Cobras.  John Wengenroth and Kahtan Al-Kaissy had big pinch hit RBI late in the game.  J.E. Urseth started on the mound for the Cobras and was strong for 5 innings before giving way to Zach Munsterman who picked up the save.  The Patriots lefty kept the Cobras off balance for 145 of his 150 pitches.  The Cobras were lucky to plate a few clutch runs.

The Cobras next game is Monday at Parade against Baseball 365.  6:15pm game time.

Cobras Take 3rd in Elko / New Market Tournament

The Cobras hit 10 home runs over the weekend, but one bad inning vs Lyon’s Pub on Saturday meant taking 3rd place vs potentially winning the title.  Here is a game by game recap of the weekend.

Cobras 9, Prior Lake 4

The Cobras hit 6 home runs in the opening game of the tournament in a rain delayed contents vs the Prior Lake Jays.  The Jays would score 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning off starter J.E. Urseth.  Mason Reinhart would hit a home run followed by traditional slow jog in the second to make it 2-1.

Then the rain would come.  Both teams looked at the field as standing water looked to doom their day…until the New Market squad brought out the large Maxi Pad style water pillows.  These pads acted like the world’s best Sham Wow soaking up all of the moisture and allowing the field to get back to playing conditions.

(Pictured Left: New Market Manager Todd Bergstrom)

The Cobras would enjoy the rain delay, playing KanJam and sucking down a few 3.2 beers just to keep the ibuprofen activated.  Once the game resumed the Cobras would awake from their slumber.

Similar to Popeye eating spinach, the Cobras drank a couple beers and flexed their muscles.  The Cobras would hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs after play resumed by Matt Youngquist, Matt Borman, Kyle Johnson and Sean Borman.  Kahtan Al-Kaissy would add another home run in the 6th inning to finish the Cobras scoring.

Urseth would go all 7 innings for the Cobras on the hill despite the 2 hour delay and microscopic zone by the umpire.

Lyons Pub 9, Cobras 7

The Cobras lost a slugfest Saturday night to league rival Lyon’s Pub after a late 4 run rally by the Warriors in the bottom of the 8th.  Zach Munsterman started on the hill for the Snakes and threw 5.2 innings of quality baseball.  John Wengenroth would hit a mammoth 2 run home run for the Cobras in the 2nd inning.

The Cobras would score 4 runs in the 7th to take a 7-4 lead featuring a big 2 RBI single by Kyle Johnson.  Unfortunately, the Cobras could not hold the lead, surrendering 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th and propelling the Pub into the championship game on Sunday.

Cobras 19, Coon Rapids 4

The Cobras took the 3rd place game in a lop-sided affair with the Coon Rapids Redbirds on Sunday.  Spirits were high for the Snakes as they pounded out 17 hits and 19 runs.  Kyle Johnson hit 2 home runs in his first two at bats before leaving with an injury after a diving crotch headbutt of Sean Borman on a foul pop.  Sean Borman would be physically fine after the collision, but was easily recognized as “Sad Seany” afterwards.

Nick Kukurich started on the hill and threw 6 solid innings striking out 6 Redbirds.  Kahtan Al-Kaissy hit another home run and did a big bat flip, then looked around to see if anyone saw his bat flip.  “Magic” Mike Lenertz had a couple of hits including a near home run off the yellow in right field.  Lenertz was named tournament MVP and sexiest man in the tournament by the New Market announcers.

Overall, the tournament was great as usual. The New Market squad does a great job of hosting, drinking, and razzing the Cobras.  A special thanks goes out to the puss pillows, the BBQ hamburgers and Todd Bergstrom.  Best of luck the rest of the way Muskies.

The Cobras next game is Thursday at 6:15pm against the Minneapolis Patriots.  Parade Stadium is the venue.

Reminder!  The Cobras golf tournament is this Saturday at Noon at New Hope Village Golf Course.  $40 gets you a round on the 9-hole par 3 course, a BBQ lunch and all the beer / pop you can drink.  If you are interested in playing, please email “Magic” Mike Lenertz at mike.lenertz@gmail.com.

Snakes Drop a 15 Spot on Blue Sox

The Cobras won their 4th league game in the 2016 campaign with a 15-2 score against the Minneapolis Blue Sox on Wednesday.  The Cobras had 17 hits and allowed only 5.  Tyler Patterson set the tone with a leadoff triple over the head of the Blue Sox CF.  Matt Borman, Kahtan Al-Kaissy and Sam Bunnett all had 3RBI a piece.  Kahtan hit 2 triples...that is not a misprint.  Matty Germar got the win on the hill for the Snakes.  Matt Youngquist (also not a misprint), Nick Kukurich and Brandon Budnick hucked the pigskin in relief (not a pigskin).

Mason Reinhart left the dugout early to get the grill ready for the parking lot festivities.  Burgers were grilled and fines were also sizzling.  The Cobras prepared for a long weekend of drinking at the Elko / New Market Tourney.  The Cobras first game is Saturday at 10AM (not a misprint) against the Prior Lake Jays in New Market.

Cobras "Under 21 Club" Combines For 4-1 Victory vs Stockmen's Irish

The Cobras brought the young guns to the bump on Tuesday and left with a 4-1 win over Stockmen's Irish.  The Cobras got out to a hot start, with two runs in the first on a Kyle Johnson RBI groundout and a Mason Reinhart oppo double.  Zach Munsterman would start for the Snakes, throwing about 14 pitches in 3 innings, then giving his belt and hat to Brandon Budnick who would pitch later in the game.  Munster Street is a pretty good guy, but Krause still hates him.  Nate Lutmer, Brandon Budnick and Nick Kukurich would pitch in relief and despite not being able to drink, were able to taste sweet victory.  Stockmen's would see a few scoring opportunities but would never really threaten the Snakes.  Final score 4-1.

Cobras ate celebratory PJ pizza and fined each other late into the evening.  There were no lightning strikes, nor garbage barrels flying through the air...unlike a previous trip to South St. Paul.

Cobras Smash Rats 10-0

This webmaster is at the cabin, but heard of a 10-0 victory over the River Rats on Thursday Night.  Matt Germar went CG shutout Thursday.  Big Papi Kyle Johnson went thick wit it, with 5 RBI.  Other than that your guess is as good as mine as to what happened.  I'll try to get a report over the holiday weekend.

A special thanks to all the Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can play a childs game.

Cobras Fall 4-2 to Angels in 9 Innings.

The Cobras dropped their second league contest by a 4-2 score in 9 innings against the Minneapolis Angels on Tuesday.  It was a well played game by both teams.  Both starting pitchers were strong, with J.E. Urseth starting for the Cobras.  Urseth would throw 6 innings and allowed only 1 earned run.  The Angels starter would shut the Cobras down, allowing only 4 hits through 6.1 innings.  The Cobras would score a single run in the first inning after a leadoff double by Tyler Adams and a single by Matt Youngquist.  Youngquist would be picked off first, and that would basically end all Cobras scoring threats until the 7th inning.

The Cobras entered the 7th inning down 2-1 when Kahtan Al-Kaissy would hit a double with a man on first base down the left field line.  Jake Krause would sac fly in the tying run to make the game 2-2 but unfortunately the Cobras could not plate the winning run.  The Cobras would have a chance at winning the game again in the 8th but no clutch hits could be found.  The Angels would score a pair of runs in the 9th and the Cobras were unable to answer.

The Cobras took to the parking lot to mourn the loss but celebrate Manager Matt Germar's birthday.  The local fire department was called to respond to Mason Reinharts "blazing" fire in his 6 inch webber grill.  KanJam was enjoyed by all.

Of note: The Minneapolis Park Board has removed all trees lining Parade Stadium.  What a horrible decision.  The park looks completely different and lacks the character of Parade.  Unfortunately we cannot put the trees back...but perhaps we can remove some of the board members responsible.  A rennovation of the Sculpture Garden should not include defacing artwork in the form of a baseball field.

Cobras Start Out Hot, Win 10-5 vs Coon Rapids

The Cobras won their 4th contest on the season with a 10-5 victory over Coon Rapids on Sunday.  The Cobras got out to a fast start scoring 5 runs in the first inning.  Tyler Patterson and Sean Borman hit big doubles.  Zach Munsterman would return from his college season and spin up his usual high pitch count gem.  The Cobras would not look back after the first, and despite a couple of late runs from the Redbirds, the Snakes would cruise to victory.  The Cobras got great defense when it mattered.  Sam Bunnett would put the cherry on top with a 2 run homer in the 9th inning.  Matty Germar would come in in relief of Chris Code to secure the Sunday Funday.

Game Notes:

  • Rey Rey was fined a couple of more times.  Cobras refer to that as "the usual".
  • Mason was fined for taking a very scenic route to a ground ball that involved letting it roll by him.
  • JE was fined for jogging to first the celebrating an error which allowed him to reach base...in the beer frame.

The Cobras next game is Tuesday at 6:15pm vs the Minneapolis Angels.  Parade Stadium is the venue.

Minneapolis Cobras survives Metro Merchants 5-2 thanks to Sam Bunnett's late-game heroics

Sam Bunnett brought home the go-ahead run to give Minneapolis Cobras the lead in the eighth inning, as Minneapolis Cobras hung on to beat Metro Merchants 5-2 on Friday.  The game was a good back and forth battle between left-handed starters Brandon Budnick and the Merchants Dave Laukkonen.  Big Dave had it going for the Merch, throwing a complete game and keeping the Snakes off balance all day.  Metro Merchants managed just two hits off of Budnick, who allowed two earned runs, walked four and struck out three during his six innings of work.

Dick Cassidy Field games are always good for a few bombs.  The Merchants took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning with a 2 run no-doubter to left field.  Matt Borman would tie the score with a 2-run homer of his own in the 4th followed by a Mason Reinhart-esk slow home run trot.  The game would remain knotted up until the 8th inning with 2 outs when Sammy Bunnett and Kahtan Al-Kaissy would hit back-to-back doubles scoring 3 for the Snakes.  J.E. Urseth would come on in the 7th and vulture the win from Budnick.

Game Notes:

  • Manager Matt Germar became claustrophobic in the Dick Cassidy dugout.  The constant pacing and yelling didn't help.
  • The Cobras rocked their brand new old school V-neck uniforms.  Unlike the camo t-shirt jerseys, we actually won with them on.
  • The Snakes played KanJam in the parking lot and J.E. Urseth almost took a header into a car.
  • Mason Reinhart ordered up some chicken sandwiches that rival food of the gods.
  • David Reyes was fined a couple times, as usual, and became sad Reyes, as usual.

The Cobras next game is Sunday at 3pm in Coon Rapids.  We hope to see you there.

Cobras Lose Lead Late, Fall To Pub 3-2

The Cobras lost a very close league game with rival Lyon's Pub on Wednesday night.  A matchup of familiar foes pitted Matt Germar opposite the Pub's Billy Meister.  Nary a pitch touched 75MPH.  The Pub would strike first with a single run in the bottom of the first inning.  The Cobras would answer back in the 3rd inning with 2 runs of their own.  Sean and Matt Borman would each plate an RBI for the Snakes.

There was not a lot of offense for the Cobras.  All 7 hits were singles and no Cobra had more than one hit.  The Pub would rally in the bottom of the 6th inning with 2 runs to take the lead for good on a clutch 2 out double.  The Cobras would go quietly in the 7th inning and the game was over.

In the parking lot the Cobras were strong.  Nearly every player on the Snakes drives some sort of Ford Truck...or at least it seems that way.  We are hoping for a Freeway Ford sponsorship.  Mason Reinhart grilled up some burgers before the grill died.  Kahtan was fined multiple times for the games email chain correspondence.  David Reyes had dinner with his girlfriends family, returned to the parking lot and was fined immediately upon arrival.

The remaining Cobras headed over to Green Mill for some diablo wings, extreme veggie pizza, and pitchers of beer.

The Cobras next game is Friday at 6:30PM at Dick Cassidy Field in N. Minneapolis against the Metro Merchants.  Note the game time has been pushed back 15 minutes to allow a little more travel time.  Look for some new jerseys that may or may not make their debut on Friday.

Cobras Open Up League Play with 8-4 Victory Over Baseball 365

The Cobras got off to a great Park National League play start against Baseball 365 on Monday night, winning an 8-4 contest.  A young and hungry 365 team stayed with the Cobras for all 7 innings.  Starter J.E. Urseth logged his first innings of the year for the Snakes, going 5 innings with 6 strikeouts.  Thicky Thick Kyle Johnson would collect a couple of hits, couple of RBI and a strained groin. Tyler Adams would set the tone, leading off for the Snakes, drawing a couple of walks, stealing a couple of bases and getting the double play beer frame.  Alex Gustafson would earn the two inning save in relief.  It was a good overall team win.

Other notes:

  • Kahtan tried on sunglasses before the game that "turned everything into 3D"
  • Gunz was fined 4 times in total.  The best fine was almost killing his teammate with a bat toss.
  • Mason was fined for a lob throw on a relay to 3B, Guns was also fined for lobbing that lob to 3B.
  • Krause fined himself for saying 2 down when there was only 1 down.

The Cobras next game is Wednesday at 6:15pm vs Lyons Pub at Parade.  This classic showdown is once again for the Title Belt.  Come out and enjoy what should be a great battle.

Cobras Filet River Falls Fighting Fish 15-0

The Cobras brought extra layers for a chilly early season game in a foreign state.  The River Falls stadium was great!  The Cobras got off to a very hot start...scoring 11 runs in the first 3 innings.  Kyle Johnson got Thicky With It, delivering 5 RBI in the first two innings.  Johnson would unleash a bases loaded double scoring all 3 Cobras runners in the 2nd inning.  Brandon Budnick started on the mound for the Cobras and was dominant.  Budnick would go CG Shutout Saturday for the Snakes, as his weak facial hair would intimidate the fish all day.

The Fighting Fish mascot was a Clown Fish.  The only enemy of a fighting clown fish is indeed a Cobra.  The Cobras would take a 15-0 lead and the only Fish potential run would be cut down on an outfield assist by Tyler Adams.  Tyler Adams loves Wisconsin baseball, country music, and laser beaming runners at home.

The Cobras would secure the CG Shutout Saturday as a gimpy J.E. Urseth would catch the final out after securing the beer frame.  In the parking lot the Cobras would enjoy Wisconsin's finest beer, Linenkugels and Spotted Cow.  Select Cobras would visit Rush River Brewing Company after the game for some bourbon enfused beer.  The Cobras enjoyed their first trip to their sister state in over 5 years.

The Cobras open up league play with a 8:30pm Monday tilt with Baseball 365.  The game is at Parade Stadium.  Bring your friends, wives, and really anyone you make eye contact with.  See you then.

Forest Lake Brewers Score More Runs Than Cobras, Cobras Drink More Beers Than Brewers

The Cobras dropped their 2nd game of the season to the Forest Lake Brewers by a 6-2 final score on Saturday.  The weather was perfect.  The baseball was not.  Matty Germar started on the hill and gave the Snakes a quality start going 6 innings and allowing only 3 earned runs.  Forest Lake would take advantage of some poorly timed errors by the Cobras D.  Sammy Bunnett stayed hot contributing a couple of hits and a smiling face.  David Reyes returned from college and turned that smile upside down for the traditional Reyes Face.  Alex Gustafson and Chris Code threw in relief for the second straight game, with much more success this time.  The Cobras couldnt get much going offensively and many a bat was thrown in disgust.

Here are some game notes:

  • Ball Dog Sallie went psycho over the coors light box, and turned a baseball into yarn.
  • Matt Germar helped his own cause with an RBI single in the 2nd inning.
  • FNG Anthony Henderson came as an emergency player due to low attendance, got fined as a FNG and for saying that a baseball came back "inbounds" off a pole.
  • The Cobras drank lots of Coors Light and played Blitzball in the parking lot.  No one knows how to throw it, or hit it.
  • John Wengenroth started in CF and had a couple of hits with his bat that resembles a table leg.
  • Sammy Bunnett ran into RF for infield outfield, despite the fact that the Cobras only take infield.
  • Chris Code had a major book fiasco that involved starting the game in the 2nd inning column.

The Cobras next game is Wednesday at 8:15pm at Big Willow against the Hopkins Berries.  Weather looks suspect, so check back often for updates.

Cobras Pop Cork On Season. Pop, Lock and Drop Opener 14-10 To St. Louis Park

The Cobras opened up the 2016 season with a loss to the St. Louis Park town team.  The traditional early season "tune up" between the two clubs was shuffled around on the schedule after a "text scheduling fiasco" by SLP's Chris Duda.  Despite the mix up the teams were able to meet at Derrick Keller Field and take bro hacks for most of the evening.  The tone of the game was light and fun, but the offense displayed by each team was far from light.

John Wengenroth started on the hill for the Snakes in his Derek Jeter / Kobe Bryant / Big Papi style final season (for now) and turned in a quality performance.  Instead of presenting Wengy with a cerimonial gift (as is the custom with players in their final season) the Park lineup greeted him with a pair of doubles and a HR in the first inning.  How rude!  Wengenroth would settle down and finish 5 innings, allowing only 5 hits and striking out 4.  The Cobras would scrape single runs in the 2nd, 5th and 6th inning to tie the game at 3...and thats when things got interesting.

Park would put up a 10 spot in the bottom of the 6th inning on a flurry of hits, hit batsmen, and long balls.  Alex Gustafson would start the inning only to see his WHIP reach similar digits of the temperature of his new sauna.  Two late inning errors would give Park the extra at bats to really pile up the runs.  Park would crush back-to-back-to-back home runs before the inning ended.  FNG Chris Code would relieve Gustafson only to see his first pitch as a Cobra sail over the left field fence (oppo bomb).  Welcome to the big leagues kid!  Code would settle down and finish the 6th and 7th innings.

In a game that normally would have ended early due to the 10 run rule...both teams agreed to play on and get some extra reps.  This decision played out well for the Snakes as they made a game out of it, scoring 7 runs of their own in the 8th inning.  Sean Borman had a booming 3RBI double.  Despite having a daydreaming 3rd base coach (Code) and sometimes even more than 1 3rd base coach (Borman), the Cobras were able to plate a number of runs and avoid injury.  Ultimately it was not enough and the final score would read 14-10.

Here are some other game notes:

  • Matty Germar would pitch a scoreless 8th inning.  He claimed that he would now retire, due to his team leading ERA.
  • FNG Kyle Johnson would secure a Sombrerro (3 strikeouts) in his first 3 Cobras at bats.  He then laced a laser beam single that nearly removed the glove of the SLP shortstop.
  • Jake Krause would have a solid game with 2 hits, 2RBI and a walk.  He donned a Concordia Moorhead letter jacket in the parking lot to keep warm.
  • Mason Reinhart took a commanding lead in court fines, racking up 3 fines for a variety of comical reasons.
  • Mike Lenertz did a bat switcheroo with Krause before being fined accordingly.
  • Sean Borman was placed in protective custody after breaking his favorite bat and becoming "Sad Seany".
  • Ryan Sele was noticably absent resulting in an automatic victory for SLP's Matt Paulsen in the "Tattoo Sleeve Contest"

The Cobras next game is Saturday in Forest Lake at 2pm.  See you then.
