Sports... One of God's Greatest Creations

From late night away game trips to early morning workouts. From the hundreds of hours spent practicing to the stressful crunch time of games. Athletes are pushed to their limits on and off the field, court or diamond. Sports are a tough and fun experience in High School. While you are forced to push yourself to the limit during practices, games, workouts and even scouting. Sports can be a very rewarding activity. But don't just take my word for it, take the word of many well-known athletes here in Lennox. In this article, you will find the inside scoop on Lennox sports and what players think and do during their sports.

Lennox has a rich history of sports from the State Championship of Class 11A Football in 1982 to the three State Championships and six State Runner-Ups in Boys Basketball. Lennox has always been known as a sports town. If you haven't noticed, hundreds of people make their way to Sinning Sports Complex every Friday to watch the Lennox Football team play. Hundreds make their way down to the Nest and watch Girls and Boys Basketball being played and a lot of you think that this helps the team. You may think, more people means more cheering, more cheering means more confidence. However, a large crowd is fun to have, but it can be stressful to the players. This is something a lot of players know and think about when they are playing in front of hundreds of "Win-Hungry" fans. This year, the Lennox Football was blessed with good coaching and great playing to equal a 5 win and 5 loss record and recorded their first playoff win in 10 years. The Girls Basketball team played great and in the end gave one of the top teams in the state a run for their money. The Boys Basketball team has worked hard to earn a 12 win and 8 loss record and are leading their Region with Region play starting tonight. The Wrestlers have worked hard to send 7 wrestlers to State this year and last year.

Let us take a look at the basis and reason for sports being created and look at why Sports can be considered an Art. To be honest, a lot of sport games bring out the best in everyone because it makes people work hard, think hard and strive for excellence. That is something Coach McVey, Coach DeVries, Coach Luze, Coach Luther, Coach Weischedel, Coach Oltmanns, Coach Williamson and Coach Sweeter will all agree with. Striving for excellence is something that the Lennox High School looks at and heavily considers in everything. Grades first, sports second has been a new system established by the school in 2012 that makes sure you are focused on school more than sports and it is something that every coach and player will agree with. A lot of people think that football players and wrestlers are barbaric and reckless, but they too agree with school first and sports second. Football, wrestling and sometimes even basketball can get rough but it is still an art to me and to all of the athletes at LHS.

I have talked enough, let’s take a look at the opinions of a few of the many athletes in Lennox on what sports has done for them and what basketball and sports mean to them. I asked a few players about what basketball means to them. Many of them said that it means a lot to them and it is an activity that they can do with their friends while making an impact on the city of Lennox. I also asked them how basketball has impacted their lives and most said that it is a fun way to make close friendships. It also taught them life values and how to work well with teammates. Finally, I asked them what basketball has given back to them and they said that it taught them many life lessons from their coaches and fellow teammates. They say that it is a true privilege to play such a fun sport with your best friends.

Now I know that this may be informative to most but there are some that may already know most of this. With Regions right around the corner, I thought that writing a story to show all of the effort and dedication in which athletes do to earn their status as an athlete. However, the athletes wanted me to make clear that God is a big help when it comes to sports. Hence why the title is One of Gods Greatest Creation because God has so much impact on what happens in the sports world. Tim Tebow is a great player to look up to because he is a firm believer that God is the reason he is able to play sports and play so well. This is why Sports is one of God’s greatest creations.

I would like to thank all of the athletes of LHS for helping me in writing this article. Even though I only talked to a few athletes, the whole LHS athlete base is what inspired me to write this article. Thanks! Also thanks to all of our fans and we hope to see you Saturday, March 7th at 7:00 PM in Lennox for the Region 4A Semi Finals.
