Orioles beat Beresford and Prepare for Dakota Valley; Region 4A Looks Sharp

Lennox began their run for another Region 4A title tonight in Lennox. The Orioles were going to face off against Beresford with the winner going to Dakota Valley on Saturday. The Tea Area Titans also played EPJ and Vermillion played Canton which made March 3rd a big day in Region 4A. In this article we will take a look at how the Orioles did vs Beresford and how the first round of Region 4A playoffs were quite competitive. Finally we’ll take a look at the upcoming action on Saturday.

Lennox started the game off tonight red hot. They led 14-6 after the first quarter and then it was Beresford turn to get hot as they scored 20 points in the second and made it 30-26 at halftime. In the third quarter, Lennox found a defensive surge holding Beresford to 4 points. As for the offense, they had their moments. Such as the nice start with plays from Jacob Hinker who made a nice 15 footer and McLaren who had a fast break layup. Later in the third, Hinker found Oldenkamp for a nice 15 footer and then Oltmanns found Oldenkamp from dagger land for 3 to make it 47-27. At the end of the third it was 47-30. Lennox scored four quick points in the fourth thanks to Hinker’s offensive rebound and put back and the intercepted pass by Leisinger that led to a fast break layup. Later Oldenkamp would hit the beautiful and I mean beautiful 10 foot floating layup to make it 53-36 with 4:47 left. The Orioles would finish well and win 57-46 meaning they were headed to the semifinals to face off against Dakota Valley. Lennox was led by Hinker who had 19 and Oldenkamp who had his season high 20 points.

As for the other Region 4A games, Vermillion started off hot against Canton with two three pointers out of the gate from Cooper Williams of Vermillion. That made the scored 6 to 2. Canton would battle back and tie it up at 21 with 3:50 in the second quarter. However Vermillion regained the lead by making it 31-29 at half. Vermillion then settled into control as they led 42-35 with 4 minutes left in the third. The final score was 71-58 Vermillion meaning they were going to host the winner of Tea Area and EPJ. Mays scored 10 points and had 16 rebounds for Vermillion. Cooper Williams had 22 points and Paul Schwasinger had 17 points for Vermillion as well. In the Tea Area game, this game was super tight the whole way. At the end of one, Tea trailed to EPJ 23-14. At halftime, Tea had turned the table and taken the lead 33-32. After a close second half, Tea finished off well and won 65-61 in a close Region 4A style game. Tea Area was led by Ethan Freidel who scored 30 points. They were also helped by Noah Freidel who had 16 and Peyton Conrad who scored 8. This means that Tea Area is going to be playing in Vermillion at 7:00 on Saturday.

This sets up for a big Saturday with the four top teams in Region 4. We’ll start by talking about the Vermillion Tanagers vs the Tea Area Titans. Both of these teams are guard led teams who can score points in the paint but are most likely going to hit the three ball or score in transition. Vermillion has two guards who can make an impact on the game and they are Paul Schwasinger and Cooper Williams. Tea Area also has two very influential guards who can do damage to opposing teams and they are Ethan Freidel and Noah Freidel.  Between these four guards, it sets up for a great game between Vermillion and Tea.

As for the other semifinal game which is Lennox vs Dakota Valley. This game just occurred last Friday in Lennox which ended up finishing in overtime. Lennox battled well vs a very tough and good Dakota Valley team this past Friday. Leisinger and Hinker both played great games in that game which is what kept this game close. If you saw tonight’s game, you would’ve known that Oldenkamp had a huge game meaning that Oldenkamp could also have a big game against Dakota Valley. However, Dakota Valley has some players who could have a big game against Lennox and those players are Robert Rosenquist, Tyler Johnson and John Prochello. All three of these guys had big games vs Lennox the first time and they could all have a big impact on Saturday. Lennox and Dakota Valley are both going to be ready for a very great game and so should you, so come on out support the Orioles this Saturday night at 7:00.

Now I know what you think, Dakota Valley is quite a long drive to watch basketball, but if you were at last week’s Lennox vs Dakota Valley game, you would know that this is going to be a great game.
