Orioles Fall in Season Opener

Posted December 11, 2016

The Orioles kicked off the 2016 basketball season with a dissappointing loss to Sioux Falls Christian at a final score of 82-56. This year's Oriole team is a young squad who in their opening game, got to play the preseason ranked number one team. The Orioles battled but the three point shooting from the veteran filled Charger team was almost impossible to stop. The youth of Lennox is a weakness espeicially when you look at Sioux Falls Christian who is the opposite and has a lot of experience. The Orioles did their best as they outscored SFC 33 to 29 in the second half. After the Orioles struggled through the first quarter they hung close through the next three quarters as they were only outscored 54 to 44.

The Orioles were led by Senior Forward Marshall McLaren who shot 50% and scored 16 points on the night. McLaren also had three rebounds, one block and six deflections. The Orioles also got a solid performance from Sophomore Guard Quincy Ihnnen who score 13 points while also earning a deflection, three rebounds and four assists. Lennox will move on to prepare for Vermillion coming up on Tuesday, December 13th in Lennox.

Vermillion will come into this game with a 2 win and 0 loss record as Lennox will come in with a 0 win 1 loss record. The Orioles team goals this year were to be the toughest, smartest and loudest team on the court. Coach McVey in a team meeting last Thursday night discussed how they are going to learn from each and every game. Coach McVey related the game to school. If a person were to show up to class with the focus on learning as much as possible, they will get an "A" on the test when it is time to remember what they were taught. McVey then said that if they look at each game focus on learning as much as possible in each game, they will do good when they are tested. This is a great analogy and Coach McVey does a good job relating anything to basketball.

Make sure to make your way to the Nest on Tuesday to see the Orioles in their home opener. Come see what the youthful Orioles and Coach Paul McVey have in store for a fun game.

Have a good game and GOOOOOO Orioles!!!
