For the second consecutive season, the Wolfpack travelled to Trail, BC to play a 3-game exhibition series with the Trail Orioles. After splitting the doubleheader on Saturday, the Pack took Game 3 on Sunday with a 7th inning rally to win the game and take the series.
With availability being an issue for the majority of the Wolfpack roster this past weekend, we were lucky enough to have several players from around the FMBA come together and join us so that we could put a competitive team on the field and get some quality reps in before FMBA Opening Weekend. A big thanks goes out to all the guys that came with us:
Aren Nelson - Cardinals
Steve "Chico" Clark - Cardinals
Brent Cooper - Diamondbacks
Dan Medic - Twins
Mitch Chicoine - White Sox
Markus Coot - White Sox
Dan Chappel - White Sox
THE HIGHLIGHTS:
- Dan Chappel and Roly Diaz made solid contact to all fields the entire weekend showing that their bats were more than ready for the FMBA season to start.
- Markus Koot spun a quality start in Game 3 on Sunday and left the game up 10-3 before the Wolfpack relievers pissed the lead away in pursuit of the ever elusive "Scab Win"
- Neil Robertson slammed the door with three solid innings pitched in Game 1 on Saturday for yet another save.
- The Trail Orioles were all-around beauties to play ball and party with and made it an easy trip to enjoy for a second year in a row.
THE LOWLIGHTS:
- Shaun Connor couldn't even wait until the games started before adding his name to the disabled list with a (beer bottle) laceration on his right hand Friday night.
- Curtis Smith rung a double off the wall and missed a home run by 2 feet, but trotted out of the box like he hit it 500 feet before realizing he actually had to run to second.
- Dan Medic drove 14 hours to catch two innings and get one at-bat before having to come out due to an injury he sustained while Aren Nelson was throwing 58-foot fastballs and sliders to him in Game 2.
- Steve Clark almost killed a creepy local guy at the bar for, well, being creepy.
- Neil Robertson and Aren Nelson sound like chainsaws when they sleep.
- Curtis Smith yelled at Neil Robertson for trying to start his own construction company in the living room at 1am on Saturday night. They made up when Neil explained that he has "entrepreneurial tourette's" and literally can't help it when a brilliant idea strikes.
