Wolfpack Victorious In Season Opener

The Calgary Wolfpack opened their season against the Calgary Twins on Sunday morning and came away with the victory in a 9-4 win.

Sean Maguire (1-0) put on a solid pitching performance in his first appeareance since 2017 hip surgery. He threw 4 innings allowing only 2 earned runs, he gave up 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. Recent rumours around the front office suggest the Wolfpack are nearing a deal to loan Maguire to the St. Albert Tigers indefinitely. When pressed for reasons why, front office sources said "there are none, this****is stupid."

The Wolfpack offense jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, but put the game away in the third when they hung 4 runs on Twins starter Matt Kerslake. Carlos Charmell's kicked off the big inning with a leadoff triple and was brought in to score on Blake Carruthers' sac fly. Jon Young got in on the scoring with a two-run double, then promptly took the opportunity to show off his new "I lost weight" wheels by stealing home to provide the fourth run of the inning. Charmell, Young, Curtis Smith, and Roly Diaz all provided two hits a piece, which was good for 8 of the Pack's 9 hits in the contest.

The Twins scored twice in the fourth inning, giving Brent "The Dragon" Suecroft an opportunity to come in and earn his first hold of the season, and Phil Gray shut the door in the 7th after the Wolfpack tacked on 3 more insurance runs in the middle innings.
