Wolfpack Continue To Roll With 4th Straight Win

The Wolfpack put together a solid team effort to win a tight ball game and hand Desmond Sullivan his first loss of the season. Fresh off of his no-hitter against the Twins back on May 14th, Sullivan was pounding the zone early but his defense stumbled out of the gate behind him as 3 runs (two unearned) in the first inning proved to be all the offense the Pack needed.

Curtis Smith (4-0) provided another quality start on the mound and cruised through the first three innings recording eight of the first nine outs by way of the strikeout. He ended up allowing two runs on five hits, four walks, and strukout twelve in his fourth consecutive complete game victory. The Giants had some tough at-bats and forced Smith into an elevated pitch count, but the Wolfpack defense was solid when hard contact was made and Trent Lawson turned a key double play from third base in a bases loaded, one out situation to kill a rally in the middle innings.

The Wolfpack offense was quieter than usual in this game, but considering the opposing pitcher it was a great performance. Roly Diaz provided multiple base hits, raising his season average to .407 in the process, and Fraser Armstrong, Brendan Roworth, and Jaret Loran all drove the baseball for extra bases and Roworth continued his torrid streak of scoring runs by crossing the plate two more times. He's tightened his grasp on the team lead in runs scored and now sits at fifteen through nine games.

The Wolfpack will head into June having gone 8-1 in the first month of the season. They will have a quick turnaround and play the Canadians on Friday, June 1st at 6:30pm before getting some well deserved rest over an eight day break.
