Pack Come Out Flat In Stunning Loss To Canadians
Posted June 5, 2018
The season high for winning streaks will remain at four for the time being, as the Wolfpack dropped the first game in their season series with the Canadians 9-4 on Suday night.
This was a rescheduled rainout game that was thrown together at the last minute (there weren't even any official umpires available) so this was a mess before the first pitch was even thrown, but the Pack didn't do much to help clean up said mess as they were sloppy in all phases of the game.
Dirk Dembroski (0-1) made his first start of 2018 for the Wolfpack after an extended absence dating back to last year. He struggled early, allowing six earned runs in the first inning, before settling in and finding his release point and throwing four more innings of shutout ball, unfortunately the Wolfpack's league leading offense wasn't able to bail him out and those six runs ended up costing him the loss.
On the offensive side of the ball, Blake Carruthers turned in another solid performance at the plate lining a double off the wall and scoring two runs in the contest, while Austin Baran showed signs of breaking out of his early season slump with a two-RBI double of his own and a run scored. Apart from those two lone bright spots, the offense scuffled, striking out eight times total. On half of those strikekouts the hitters were caught watching strike three go by.
The Wolfpack will get their starting left fielder and leadoff man back from injury in Michael Goldade this week, as they look to get back on track in their upcoming doubleheader with the Longhorns on the morning of Sunday June 10th, with their season finale against the Giants coming the next night before another week long break.
