Monday evening at North Greene was as impressive of a pitching performance as you will see. Sophomore, Josh Owens making his first appearance and start of the season, and freshman, Morgan Lyons combined to hold the Huskie bats to two hits, both singles. After settling down on the mound after coming out from behind the dish at the catcher position, Lyons spun quality breaking ball after quality breaking ball, and spotted his fastball well. Owens fieleded his position well, including starting a beautiful 1-6-3 (pitcher-shortstop-first baseman) double-play. Owens made a huge pitch in a full count, two out, bases loaded situation, as he threw a breaking ball that was routinely hit to left fielder, Landen Street for the final out of the bottom of the second inning.
Defensively we made all the routine plays, as we should, as often hurts a lot of high school baseball teams. The routine plays are the plays that have to be made. On Monday evening, we made those plays. Weston Street did a really good job when he went behind the dish to replace M. Lyons. Offensively, it's no secret we must do a better job of stringing hits together, of coming up with the big hits in the pressure situations.
Parker Henry continues to show a uncanny ability to place bunts. Dalton Rouse, who played a little catch for the first time this season on Monday, continues to heat up in the four hole. Freshman SS, Caleb Royston continues to battle in the box and give himself a chance. It was nice to see Landen Street get a hard base knock on Monday, but overall, going back to the 2018 season, we must improve with the bat in our hands as a baseball club.
We hope to see you at Scotty Bunton Field today for a 5:00 first pitch, as we host the Huskies from North Greene. Caleb Royston will take the ball for the home club.
