Wolfpack Lose Game 2 Despite Late Rally

Posted June 3, 2019

The Wolfpack took their first loss of the year at the hands of the Longhorns with a huge helping hand from the umpires in Game 2 of their doublehader Sunday. Pierre botched every call he could on the bases in this game and it ended up costing the Wolfpack too many runs for their offense to overcome.

The Wolfpack bats took a few innings to wake up, as they were shutout through three innings and staring at a 7-0 deficit heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, but they were able to put up eight runs in the fourth, led by Fraser Armstrong's first bomb of the season, to roar back and take an 8-7 lead.

Christian Lapointe (2-1) put up a zero on the scoreboard in the fifth to keep the Pack in front, but they weren't able to add to their lead and still onl held a fragile one run lead going into the sixth inning. Lapointe gave up two singles and a walk to lead of fhe inning and loaded the bases before Matt Zanutto came in to try to close the door, but the first batter doubled to score two runs and give the Longhorns back the lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

The Wolfpack look to Wednesday to get back to their wining ways as they take on the Giants in a mid-week tilt. First pitch will be at 6:30PM.

Player of the week (Jul 19/20)

Russell Strilchuk

Wolfpack Rookie of the Year candidate Russell Strilchuk has broken out over the past week with two home runs, one of the walk off variety, in the Wolfpack's series against the White Sox. He led the team with six RBI this week and was just shy of batting .500 going 5-11 at the dish.
