Offense Continues To Roll, Wolfpack Hammer Giants 19-5

Posted June 6, 2019

The Wolfpack improved to 6-1 on the season with a blowout win over the Giants on Wednesday night. The game was closer than the final score let on, as the Pack held only a one run lead going into the fourth inning before exploding for ten runs and really putting this one out of reach.

Cam Williams (1-0) earned his first career win on the mound by spinning a three inning start and was able to hold back the onslaught of seeing-eye singles and soft contact base hits long enough to give the Wolfpack offense a chance to blow the game open for him. He pounded the strikezone and induced soft contact all around the field which led to some quick innings and kept the Wolfpack defense engaged. They responded by turning in their lowest error total of the season, only making two. This marks the first time in 2019 they've committed less than three errors.

Trent Lawson continues to be the offensive story in the early going for the Pack, as he turned in a perfect day at the plate, giong 3-3 with three RBI and four runs scored. He now sits atop the league in .OPS, batting average, and RBI's. Some regression is obviously coming eventually, but for now it looks like the entire league is struggling to get him out.

Cam Williams also pitched in a couple hits of his own, and Shaun Connor tacked on five RBI, three of which came on a bases clearing double in the first inning to help the Pack take an early 4-0 lead.

Cory Lawson, younger brother of red-hot shortstop Trent Lawson, made his first career pitching appearance for the Wolfpack in the final inning of this game and closed the book on this game by allowing a single, inducing a ground ball double play, and striking out the Giants lead off hitter. The Wolfpack brass loved what they saw, and are extremely excited to have another quality arm trying the Curly W on and hope they will get to see a lot more of him in the future.

The Wolfpack are scheduled to take on the FMBA newcomer Dinos on Saturday June 8th at 3pm and 6pm.
