Wolfpack Take Game 1 of Twins Doubleheader
Posted June 17, 2019
The Wolfpack improved to 8-3 with a 12-7 victory in Game 1 of their doubelheader with the Twnis Saturday. Defense was back to being rough, and the pitching was giving up some hard contact, but the bats more than made up for it by scoring nine runs in the first two innings and never looking back.
Curtis Smith (4-0) earned his fourth win of the 2019 FMBA season despite not having his best stuff and struggling through some long innings littered with base hits. He allowed season highs in both hits and earned runs with eight and four respectively, and struck out a season low ten batters in the complete game victory.
Michael Goldade and Matt Zanutto led the offensive attack in Game 1, as both players knocked in three runs a piece, accounting for six of the Pack's twelve runs in the game. both collected multiple hits, and Goldade ripped his team leading fourth triple of the season (in eleven games).
One of the bigger stories of the day was the long awaited return of Carlos Charmell to the Wolfpack lineup. Out since May 12th with a hamstring strain suffered on a stolen base attempt, the long-time fixture at the top of the Wolfpack lineup was able to collect a single and score a run during the game without suffering any setbacks. The Wolfpack have ten days off before their next league game, giving Charmell more time to rest and recover as he gears up to rejoin the Wolfpack during their push for a championship.
