Wolfpack Impress In St. Albert Tigers Tournament, Lose Final To Sherwood Park

Posted June 27, 2019

The Wolfpack spent last weekend competing in the St. Albert Tigers Invitational and made a strong impression on the rest of the provincial baseball community that was in attendance.

While they were missing a majority of their regular roster, they were able to make a few key pick ups that weekend and played some of the best baseball they had put together all season. The bats were hot, they had the power stroke going, blasting five home runs in five games, and the pitching was solid all-around when it was fresh.

Weekend highlights included Cam Williams hitting a tape-measure home run that still hasn't landed during Game 2 on Saturday before tacking on his second shot of the weekend during the Championship game Sunday night. Curtis Smith struck out eleven and held the Sunburst League leading Confederation Cubs to two runs before the Pack offense came alive late to secure a walk-off victory to open the tournament, and Trent Lawson also ripped his team leading and career high fourth bomb of the season.

After going undefeated and cruising into the final as the #1 seed in the tournament, the Wolfpack simply ran out of fresh arms and fell to one of the best hitting teams in the province in the Sherwood Park A's. The championship was their third game of the day and the fatigue showed as they committed six errors in the final game before losing 15-5 through five innings and starting their long drive home around 9:30PM Sunday night.

Despite not taking the championship, this will certainly go down as a bright spot in the 2019 season for the Pack. A depleted roster was able to defeat every AAA Sunburst team that they played on the weekend, and by doing so proved that they are one of the top Senior Men's teams in the province.

Player of the week (Jul 19/20)

Russell Strilchuk

Wolfpack Rookie of the Year candidate Russell Strilchuk has broken out over the past week with two home runs, one of the walk off variety, in the Wolfpack's series against the White Sox. He led the team with six RBI this week and was just shy of batting .500 going 5-11 at the dish.
