On a cloudy Thursday afternoon, the Bulldogs made a trip to Cannon-Gouge Park to take on the Happy Valley Warriors. The bats continued to roll for Hampton, as we got the win 8-4. After a scoreless first inning, the Bulldogs struck for two runs in the top of the second, before surrendering one run in the bottom half of the inning. We then had a wild top of the third. It started with a drag bunt for a hit by Weston Street. He was then able to advance to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Caleb Royston. Senior, Dalton Rouse followed that up with a two-run homerun over the right field fence. On the next pitch, Josh Owens smoked a double in the right-center field gap. Scott Mignault courtesy ran for the starting pitcher, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He then scored on a suicide squeeze by Elijah Smith. The Bulldogs put the game away in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs.
On the pitching side of things, junior, Josh Owens got the start. While not having his best stuff yesterday, Owens was able to battle through 6 2/3 innings, throwing 119 pitches. He recorded 8 strikeouts, while walking 5 and giving up 5 hits, allowing 4 runs, 3 earned. Owens then gave way to Dalton Rouse, who threw the last 1/3 of the game. Rouse got the job done with 5 pitches.
Although there is uncertainty on how much more baseball will be played, we are excited with our start to the season. Tonight we host the Hancock County Indians, with varsity first pitch scheduled for 6:30. The JV will have their first game at 4:00 at home.
