In 2019 Hampton Baseball was a really bad offensive team. In 2020 the Baseball Bulldogs came out of the gate swinging the bats well in winning every game they played (including two scrimmages). The 2021 team started off really slow offensively, concerningly so! Recently the bats have woken up. We have written about the production of Chance Point and Morgan Lyons from the top of the batting order, and they continued on Thursday vs. Lakeway Christian at Scotty Bunton Field, but Collin Morgan joined the hit parade with a 3-4 performance. Collin had two doubles and a sharp line drive single. His lone out was a deep fly out to centerfield. Conor Jones had a base hit on Thursday. Not enough can be said about the progress he is making as he learns the game and gains valuable experience.
The Baseball Bulldogs pounced on Lakeway Christian to the tune of seven runs in the first inning on Thursday. The inning featured a sharp single to lead off the game by Point and his steal of 2B off of a good Lakeway catcher's arm. Morgan Lyons scored Point once again in 2021 when he slammed a double to the left-center gap. Caleb Royston, in a team player move, was given the option to swing or bunt Lyons to 3B, and Royston elected to bunt. The highlight of the inning came when Collin Morgan hit a shot in the right-center gap to score two runs.
However, on Thursday, as in other days this season, a combination of errors, walks, hit batsmen, passed balls, and just play on the defenisve side of the ball that are not as clean as it needs to be doomed the Bulldogs. Hampton will try to be cleaner on that side of the ball on Thursday and look to continue to swing big bats and execute offense.
