Posted Apr 8/10 - HOOVER BEATS SPAIN PARK IN SECOND AREA GAME

The Hoover Bucs won against Spain Park Friday night during their last home game of the season. With the fans cheering them on, the Bucs won with a score of 9-6. The big hitters of the evening were Michael Crump, who went 4 for 4 driving in 1 run, Tyler Mims, who went 2 for 4 with 2 rbi's, and Justin Dunne (2 rbi's) and Brock Hardy (1 rbi), who each went 1 for 2. Pitcher Lewis Hammond improved his record to 5-1 with 2 no decisions. Hammond pitched 6 1/3 innings striking out 7 and giving up 7 hits. There were two errors committed by the Bucs during the game. Nate Richards pitched 2/3 of an inning and earned the save.

The battle between Class 6A, Area 10's two ranked teams wasn't won with a bang. It was won with ping after ping after ping of the bat as well as some costly errors.

No. 2 Pelham hung a 12-run inning on the eighth-ranked Bucs to come away with a 15-5 win to improve to 26-2 overall and 5-0 in the area. Pelham pitcher Trevor Fitts improved to 8-0 on the year in allowing six hits -- two to Hoover catcher Tyler Mims -- with just two walks and seven strikeouts. Mims doubled and had two RBIs for Hoover (21-9, 2-3).

Posted Mar 24/10 - HOOVER BUCS SPLIT WITH AUBURN TIGERS

The Hoover Bucs split with the Auburn Tigers Wednesday. The two past state champions (2008 and 2009, respectfully) met at Auburn High School. During the first game, the first two innings were scoreless for both teams, but Auburn scored 2 in the third inning and 1 in the fourth inning. The Bucs battled back as their bats came alive and won the game 9-4. Lewis Hammond (4-0) earned the win after striking out five in five innings. Jonathon Whitehead closed the game. Josh Magee was 2-4, while Sam Gillikin had two hits and Scott Head had a two-run single that put the Bucs in the lead. The Bucs record improved to 20-10.

In game two, the Bucs took an early lead by scoring two in the 1st inning after Tyler Mims (2-4) hit a double and Michael Crump brought them in on a homerun. But the Tigers answered back by scoring one in the first and three in the second. Matthew Lord hit two homeruns against the Tigers. The Bucs were unable to put any more runs on the board and the Tigers won 9-4.

The Hoover Bucs improved their record to 17-7 with an 8-3 win over Hartselle. Jonathon Whitehead pitched 5 innings for the win with Nate Richards finishing the game. Michael Kennedy hit two singles resulting in three RBI's. Scott Head also hit two singles driving in two runs.

Posted Mar 15/10 - HOOVER SWEEPS 1ST TWO GAMES IN BUCCANEER CLASSIC

The Hoover Bucs beat the visiting Houston Mustangs (TN) 11-4. Hoover had 13 hits with Josh Magee, Michael Crump and Tyler Mims leading the Bucs with two hits each. Will Groce earned the win in 6 innings.

Hoover went on the beat Pell City 11-1. Hoover had 12 hits. Garrett Plummer had three hits while Sam Gillikin and Michael Crump each had 2. Duke Donlin, who pitched 6 innings, earned the win. Hoover improved their record to 16-7.

The Hoover Bucs swept visiting Etowah Saturday afternoon. Jeffrey Higginbothom was the winning pitcher of the first game surrendering 4 runs in 5 innings with 4 hits, 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Brock Hardy (1 for 2) hit a two run homerun, while Carson Haley ( 1 for 4), Tyler Mims (2 for 3), and Scott Head (2 for 2) each hit a double. Grant Hayes went 2 for 2 and Sam Gillikin went 2 for 3.

Michael Kennedy was the winning pitcher of the second game. Patrick Conway (1 for 1) and Michael Crump (1 for 4) each hit home runs while Josh Magee (2 for 3) and Sam Gillikin (1 for 2) each hit a double.

Posted Mar 12/10 - BUCS BEAT THOMPSON IN SECOND MATCH-UP

The Hoover Bucs evened the score of area play against Thompson with a 4-2 victory Friday night. The Bucs started strong in the 1st inning as they scored 4 runs off Thompson pitcher, Jonathon Keller. Tyler Mims started the rally and was 2 for 3 for the night with 1 run. Sam Gillikin also reached base and Michael Crump hit a homerun which resulted in 3 rbi's. Scott Head went 2 for 3 for the night with a double. The Bucs survived a 3 error 6th inning which resulted in 2 unearned runs to seal the victory. Lewis Hammond (3-0) pitched the complete game giving up 0 earned runs, 3 hits and 6 strikeouts.

Posted Mar 9/10 - HOOVER FALLS TO THOMPSON IN AREA GAME

The Hoover Bucs fell to Thompson Tuesday night with a  6-3 loss. Hoover quickly jumped ahead with the 3-0 lead in the second inning. However, Thompson answered back with scoring 1 run in the 3rd and 5 runs in the 4th inning. Neither team scored after the fourth.

Posted Mar 6/10 - BUCS WIN 3 ON THE ROAD

Hoover extented their winning streak from Friday night by beating Sparkman, Madison Academy and Huntsville. The Bucs started their day at Sparkman High School where Sam Gillikin doubled, homered and had three rbi's. Matthew Lord was 3 for 3, while Josh Emery had a two run homer. Wil Groce earned the 8-5 victory. The day continued at the AAA Joe Davis field where the Bucs faced past 5-A State Champions, Madison Academy. Michael Crump drove in two runs, Tyler Mims had two hits and Nate Richards got the 6-3 win. Hoover concluded the day with a 14-2 victory over Huntsville where Patrick Conway got the win pitching the five inning complete game.

Posted Mar 5/10 - BUCS RALLY LATE TO BEAT OAK MOUNTAIN IN AREA GAME

The Hoover Bucs rallied in the 7th inning to beat Oak Mountain in the second area game match-up. Lewis Hammond pitched the complete game with 8 strikeouts to lead the Bucs to the 5-3 victory. The Bucs were down 3-2 going into the 7th, but got their bats working scoring 3 in the seventh inning. Hammond pitched out of a jam in the 7th when bases were loaded with one out. He struck out the next batter and got the last batter to fly out to shallow right field. Tyler Mims led the Bucs with a single, double and a triple.

Posted Mar 4/10 - BUCS LOSE CLOSE GAME AGAINST OAK MOUNTAIN

It was the battle of the homeruns Thursday night. Hoover led with three while Oak Mountain had two. Unfortunately, the difference in the game was that Oak Mountain had runners in scoring position while Hoover's bases were empty. The Hoover Bucs lost the area game 5-4.
