Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland. The rockets successfully opened their defense of the heartland baseball league championship last nite defeating the
Van wert twisters 11-1 at smiley park in van wert. Portland league champs last year, has never lost to the twisters. The heartland league is a wood bat league with teams from 4 states. Members include Portland, van wert, oh. Michiana scrappers, mich, Illinois jayhawks Chicago, mich city lakers and south bend sultans.
The rockets scored 7 runs in the first inning and cruised to the victory in 2 hours 19 min. mitch waters and billy wellman each had 3 hits and 3 rbi. Most importantly 3 new rockets reported for duty . actually returning to duty pitcher devin wilburn of ball state. devin started and went 4 innings allowing 1 unearned run on 1 hit with 5 strike outs.
Also returning Jensen painter of ohio university, one of the nations leading collegiate home run hitters, Jensen was a rocket with josh ludy in 2009 on our regional finalist team.
Jensen played the last 2 summers in the great lakes conference. Jensen doubled off the fence in the first inning to drive in the games first run,
Also making his rocket debut, Austin bridges of Muncie
After wilburn, tyler Reynolds went the next 4 innings with no runs and travis gray pitched the ninth.
Dan bollenbacher went one for one as a pinch hitter. ;Portland outhit van wert 14-5
Once again, Portland had more runs, more players and more fans in this road contest
Rocket record now 7-4, van wert 2-7

We will see you on sat as the rockets return to action 1pm at runkle-miller field vs. the lima buckeyes. Rockets also home mon and tues nite. Mon vs shady nook jackers, tues vs. ohio warhawks.
