June 20, 2012 rockets over ohio warhawks 7-2

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland.  The Portland rockets

Defeated the ohio warhawks 7-2 tues eve at runkle-miller field.  Billy ballgame, billy geeslin stifled the warhawks on just 3 hits striking out 12 batters thru 6 innings.  Billys

Mound presense was dominate and truly showed he has come back fully from arm surgery.  Devin wilburn finished up the last 3 innings striking out 5 ---that is 17 punch outs in the game!

The warhawks, a younger team have won 4 national world series in their division, are still getting their team together, players from Alabama, Arkansas, florida and all over, they use metal bats but coming ping together 5 hits in the contest.  They are prepping for their tournament this weekend in Memphis.  We will play these guys again in Dayton in july.

The rocket attack was led again by captain Italia, mitch waters---mitch smashed his second homer in 2 days, scored 3 runs with 2 rbi.

Portland scored 2 in the 2^nd inning on rbi singles by zach tanner and tom mccowan.  The offense tacked on 2 more in the 8^th inning on a 2 run triple by grant hendershot.

We outhit the hawks 8-5.  game time 2 hrs 6 min ---how bout them apples ray cooney----lot better than 3 plus hrs in the ft wayne win.

New ss zach tanner joins the squad from Yorktown, as he has finished his collegiate career at wright state.  zach knows many of our players as they are connected thru baseball icon and legend bobby graves, coach of the Muncie legion.

They should make one of those old farm bureau insurance commercials with bobby. Coach graves, 79 yrs old called me yesterday and went to bat for another young prospect. 

Never having seen the tanner kid, bobby said the guy is trying out for the gary railcats sat. and wants to play -----so thanks bobby graves yes the kid can play.

Bobby was quick to say he called josh ludy the next day after the Baylor loss to Arkansas and that is just the guy he is,,,still connected .  Portland rockets probably have had 30 plus players with a bobby connection.  Love in Portland bobby graves

Rockets win and the crowd loves it. Many friends and supports on hand at the park. Donna chittum celebrated her birthday at the park with husband larry,,,and I will not believe she is going skydiving no,  and david lea who umpired for years in Portland was on hand. Steve takats, Donald gillispie, our sheriff work patrol helper jim eiynkes on hand.  Special thanks to Rodney miles and his lawn care staff for field touch up. Also my brother has now assigned Vicki tague the  OOPS Official Operations P rodder Supervisor to keep rocket management focused

Perhaps the most important sighting of the day,  the new refrigerator installed at the lunching pad by jim runkle..thanks jamar.

Rockets back in action thurs . 7 pm start at smiley park van wert.  Eathan daggatt the starter yes we are going back to ohio

 Rockets will be home again sat for a 6 pm dh vs. Michigan city lakers
