Posted Jun 25/12 - Twisted Dodgers Mayhem Punishes Opponents

Well, it's been a while, but the Dodgers finally got to play some ball and wash away the lingering odour of crap permeating the dressing room after the embarassment that was Slugger Friday. Of course, I did use the port-a-potty as my dressing room this weekend, so at least some of the smell continued to linger.

What this reporter would like to know, is how the hell do the Sluggers continue to end up in Rec division? Most of their losses are opt-outs. In games they've actually played, they're 8-2 and have outscored opponents 112-48. Blue Jays and Joey Bats are good teams, but beatable. Granted, we didn't help things by committing some 400 errors in one inning, but they can still pound the****out of the ball.

Anyway, on with the good news part of this report. The Dodgers started off the second tournament of the season with a bang, going 2-0-1 in their three round robin games. They scored nine runs in the first inning of the first game, including a grand slam from the younger Hickey in his second at-bat of the inning, on their way to a 14-7 win. Game two against the Twistoffs was even more dramatic, with a come from behind, bottom of the fifth rally capped by a walk-off three run homerun by none other than that Hickey kid again. Not too shabby for a player called up to the big league for the first time last fall. Game three saw the Dodgers playing a team full of entertaining drunks. Proving that alcohol is great, Electric Mayhem put up the toughest fight the Dodgers (who were playing with a 5 guy:5 girl lineup, I should add) saw all day, forcing an 11-11 tie. The tying run was scored by the biggest and possibly drunkest guy on the team, after which he puked on the sidelines. That's dedication......or just drunken fortitude....

A great Saturday resulted in a #3 seed for the Dodgers, which I believe is their highest seed ever going into the second day of a tournament. The team easily won their first game of the playoff round thanks in large part to Dave's two homeruns, one triple and 7 RBIs. Unfortunately, in a rematch with Twistoffs, the Dodgers lost both their bats and gloves, giving up eight runs in one error-filled inning and managing only three runs in return. Those are the sorts of mistakes that a good team like Twistoffs will make you pay for. While it may have ended sooner than hoped, it was still one of the most impressive playoff appearances ever and should provide some excellent momentum for the rest of the regular season.

The best news of the entire weekend is that Rob wasn't completely useless! Maybe it's his sexy, new, clean-shaven look.
