Cross Country: Baker, Spanish Fort win Warrior Challenge No. 3

MOBILE, Alabama -- Baker and Spanish Fort came away with team titles in the Warrior Challenge No. 3 held at Medal of Honor Park on Saturday. Baker, behind senior Collin Wood’s 18:31.27 individual win, won the boys’ title with 36 points, narrowly defeating Spanish Fort, which scored 38. Host Cottage Hill Christian was third with 58 points, while Mary G. Montgomery was fourth with 101 points.

Wood won by nearly eight seconds over Cottage Hill Christian’s Tyler Bennett, as Baker placed all five of their scoring runners in the top 15. Cole Jackson was third for Baker with a time of 18:41.55, Kenneth Luker eighth, Tyler Pendleton 12th and Christian Perkins 14th. Spanish Fort won the varsity girls division, scoring 31 points, with Baker second and Cottage Hill Christian third. Both scored 47 points, but Baker got second because its No. 6 runner had a higher finish than Cottage Hill Christian’s. Mary G. Montgomery was fourth with 110.

Spanish Fort placed five runners in the top 10, with sophomore Hannah Frain leading the way in third with a time of 22:16.36. Carrisa Jones was fourth, Sophie Bengel sixth, Sarah Carrico eighth and Katrina Garofano 10th. Cottage Hill Christian’s Caroline Cumbest was the varsity girls’ winner in 21:36.24, nearly 38 seconds ahead of Baker’s Carsandra Pickens (22:14.22).
