June 2, 2014 portland rockets opening weekend split –2-2 vs. Jackers, Marlins

Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland,  and happy month of june . 

Portland rockets opened their 54^th season this weekend in Portland at runkle-miller field. The place was a buzzin, the action was hot and exciting.

Mayor Randy Geeseman threw out the first pitch and it was on like donkey kong.

The rockets hosted the ft. wayne jackers –ft. waynes top club, the matchup has always been a great rivalry, mitch waters vs. garrett wiejak.

Rockets out hit the jackers but were defeated 6-3/

2 innings the rockets loaded the bases but came up empty. And of course the umpire missed the chalk fly on Dalton tinsleys extra base bid down the foul line. Blind in one eye and cant see out the other.

But how cool to watch that internet replay of mitch waters home run over the left field fence.  And the big crowd loved it.

Rockets big right hander dan bollenbacker toiled in game 2 and gave up 4 unearned runs in the 2^nd but that is all they got, rockets lose 4-3 . 

Portland had 3 baserunners tagged out on the bases

Jackers entered the day 5-0 , rockets hadn’t played and it showed.

Sunday portlands team fared much better .  behind the complete game pitching of tyler Reynolds rockets beat the ft. wayne marlins 4-1.  Reynolds struck out 12 batters giving up 3 hits/. Mitch waters and chris miller each had 2 hits.  Gary Williams of union city had an rbi.

Game 2 portland bats heated up rocket win 11-4.  Justin miller, Yorktown, and kyle markle, Celina, had 2 hits each, markle with 5 rbi.  Travis gray the winning pitcher.

On the weekend waters and tinsley led the attack with 4 hits.  Also great to see back Justin Marrero and Thomas mccowan. And geoff bowers.

Waters, bollenbacher, Reynolds, gray, conner milligan, Justin miller, evan van Gordon of Hartford city are all pitchers of note,  that is 7 arms that will keep us in every game. Welcome new catcher  cody krumlauf, like that arm.

Rockets send condolences to our gal who helps us out miss Ashley dawson who lost

Her dad this week.

Portland will play tues at lima simmons field vs lima locos wed in Celina vs. grand lake mariners. Then sat at taylor university.

Next home game next tues .  all weekday games at 7 pm
