Nabf regional tournament
Ft. wayne
at Carrington field
Good morning baseball fans, it’s a beautiful day in Portland. The Portland
rockets concluded the 2014 season Friday, winning the morning qualifying game
11 1
over the south bend Yankees, then
losing the semifinals in the evening 7-1 to the berea blue sox.
The rockets made it to the final 4 of the 8 team field but
came up short, eventual winner, the ft. wayne jackers beat the berea blue sox,
7-6. jackers advance to world series in battle creek. Rockets finish season with a very impressive
27-16 mark. Remember back in june when Portland was 7-7.
Rockets faced elimination fri morning but responded with a
resounding 11-1 win. Justin miller went 6.2 inn with a 3 hitter, 7 ks. Travis gray, just back from southern ohio
league, struck out the last man. Dalton tinsley went 4for4 with a single, a double, and 2
triples, Dalton tinsley knows I love triples. Tinsley distinguished himself by going 11-26
in tournament play. Next would be geoff
bowers and billy geeslin with 6 hits.
Rockets had 2 hits in game one from logan hug, Thomas mccowan, and cody krumlauf.
Portland, berea, ftwayne jackers and expos, in the
semifinals,
Berea

Portland had early in the
year been a regional selection in Cincinnati,
but that did not happen and they had just 4 teams I am told. Will have to
investigate,\
We know that portland’s
team will show up and play you tough,
In 1994 portland
was in regional play in canton and at Thurman munson stadium 8th
inn. Score 2 2 vs. Anderson Yankees , officials reported Portland
with ineligible player, joe zanola was on our team just released from Miami marlins.
I promised mom, betty miller we would not let that happen
again. It happened again this weekend,
to the champion jackers, we kept it
straight up.
We are proud of the dedication in such a long season of
nearly all our players. Just one of our important players did not show up to
play, disappointedly.
We play more games than most
Berea
ends their season 32-5, rockets 27-16
Special thoughts go out to one of the nicest ballplayer ever
to play against us
Joe mccomb from ft.
waynes mccombs
construction passed away at age 72. joe was a class act, I remember marveling
as he hit a home run at age 51.
Rockets have lots of thank yous to pass along. To our parks dept. and administration, to our
sponsors and helpers, to gary
Bernard and the buffalo bar and grill for our ice, to all those rocket rooters
Love ya in Portland,
I can still hear Samantha Thomas yelling, “are there any rocket fans out
there!!!”
I love the thrills and spills at the ball park.
Happy birthdays to Kelly knapshafer, phil miller and keith
pensinger this weekend.
Rocket stats will be posted for the season in the new news
items slot later this week.
Remember our rocket rally golf outing September 28th
at 1000 am at the Portland
golf club.
Another fine season in portland
