The heat at game time was a blistering 107 degrees, and the weekend forecast was for temperatures to hover above 100 with no let down. Staying on top of hydration was a going to be a job for the players all weekend.
Despite a four run first inning and a strong effort from the Bender's Rob Ellis, the team lost it's first game of the tournament 6-4 to a team from Oregon that benefited from a lack of consistent offensive production and some costly fielding errors. The Bay Kings were shut out for eight frames following the first, unable to capitalize and stranding too many on base. Starting the tournament 0-1 was not the strategic outcome managers Lex Robins and Ben Graber were after, but the tight finish indicated that winning baseball was an adjustment or two away.
That was posted on sfnaba website just after the tournament.
