Posted Feb 13/11 - SD high school baseball adopts wood bats only starting 2012
Following collegiate baseball, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) will no longer be allowing the use of 100% BESR composite bats for high school baseball.

For the 2011 high school season, 50/50, BBCOR and wood bats will only be allowed by the NFHS.  50/50 bats consist of a handle that is composite and a barrel that is alloy/metal.  The South Dakota High School Baseball Association follows NFHS rules; therefore, South Dakota high school baseball teams will follow the new bat restrictions in 2011.

However, starting in 2012, the South Dakota High School Baseball Association has decided to adopted a wood bat only policy, joining New York and North Dakota as the only states in America to adopt such a policy at this time.  In 2012, the types of wood bats that will be allowed for high school baseball in South Dakota will be wood, bamboo, composite wood and laminate wood.
