MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon/Woonsocket/Sanborn Central baseball team went 1-2 over the weekend.
The Outlaws lost to Parkston 5-4 Saturday in Mount Vernon, but defeated Lennox 13-1 in game two of a double header Sunday in Lennox. Lennox won game one, 8-2.
Justin Davis was the losing pitcher for the Outlaws Saturday versus Parkston, throwing two innings and allowing four hits. He allowed two-earned runs and walked three.
Kyle Gerlach came in relief of Davis and pitched five innings. He allowed three hits, one-earned run and he struck out nine.
Offensively, Brian Vermeulen was 2-for-3 with a double, Cam Deinert was 3-for-4 with a RBI and Nate Zens, Cody London and Deric Denning each had a hit and an RBI.
Parkston’s Derik Bialas earned the win. He threw three innings, allowed four hits and one-earned run. He struck out four batters.
Sterling Kinneberg and Jared Weber were each 1-for-4 with an RBI and Eric Reiff was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Parkston won the JV game 5-4.
On Sunday, Deinert took the lose, throwing just one inning in the first game of the doubleheader and allowed two hits and two earned runs. He struck out two. He was pulled at the start of the second inning, due to muscle tightness.
Vermeulen was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, Gerlach and Dean Frey each had a single hit.
Zens picked up the win in the second game. He threw three innings and struck out six. He didn’t allow an earned run.
Gerlach was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, Zens was 2-for-2 and Cody London was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Denning had two hits and three RBIs and Frey had a hit and three RBIs.
Mount Vernon won the JV game 3-0.
