Posted Apr 13/11 - 2011 Park River Baseball Season
All,
The 2011 Park River Baseball season is just around the corner. Baseball in Park River is continuing to grow and player interest is very high. I expect that all the Park River teams, Cal Ripken 10U to Babe Ruth, will contend for their respective league titles. The Pre-Season Camp is scheduled to begin the 21st of April, and run till the beginning of the Park Board season. You will find camp flyers to download from the handouts tab.
The regular season should start near the end of school, and run till the end of July for the 12 U Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth teams. The 10U Cal Ripken season ends near mid July. Complete schedules will be sent out/posted on website for all respective teams.
There will continue to be opportunities for players to play Travel Baseball during the 2011 season whether with the Park River Pirates or with the Walsh County Nationals. Travel Baseball will require a commitment to weekend tournament play, however these tournaments(2-3) are generallly not concurrent and not more than 100 miles away from Park River. Travel Baseball provides a lifetime of fun and memories. Its warm, the sun shines(most of the time), and the lake or campground is close by. I'll post more Travel Baseball information on the calendar as the camp is in session.
There are several people who are working behind the scenes to improve PR Baseball, including the move toward formation of a Baseball Boosters Board. The next Baseball Boosters Meeting will be April 19th. Several community leaders have stepped up and expressed interest in board positions.
I remember my grandfather and his unwavering interest in anything baseball related. He lived baseball, played it till he was 45, and spent the next 50 years of his life wishing he was 7 years old again; to do it all over. This should be the direction of the Park River Baseball Program.
