Three players from Winner/Colome’s high school baseball team were named to the all-state first team.
Outfielder Austin Calhoon, catcher Austin Richey and designated hitter Taylor Haley were the three players honored for Winner/Colome.
Richey had a .636 batting average in 58 at-bats, and he also slugged five home runs and drove in 24 runs — which led all of the first team players.
Calhoon batted .540 in 56 at bats and drove in 16 runs, while Haley batted .428 in 53 at bats.
Mount Vernon/Woonsocket/Sanborn Central second baseman Brian Vermeulen was named to the first team after hitting .474 in 38 at-bats, recording six RBIs and stealing nine bases.
Shortstop Luke Bamberg, of Corsica/Stickney/Armour/ Plankinton, hit three home runs and drove in 12 batters, stole six bases and batted .483 in 29 at-bats to earn a first-team spot.
Chamberlain/Lyman outfielder Max Tyrell and Bon Homme utility player Blase Vanecek were also named to the first team. Tyrell had 14 RBIs and hit .690 in 29 at-bats, and Vanecek drove in 15 batters, had four stolen bases and hit .515 in 33 at-bats.
Parkston pitcher Derik Bialas was named to the first team after posting a 1.96 ERA in 23 innings and he struck out 30 batters.
Winner/Colome’s first baseman Dylan Donahue, third baseman JD Farley and outfielder Zach Harter and Corsica/Stickney/Armour/ Plankinton outfielder Kiefer Johnson and Wagner pitcher Alex Kocer were named to the all-state second team. |
