Posted Oct 1/11 - Dodgers Start Fall Playoffs with a Bang

The Dodgers apparently saved their best for last. After all the round robin dust had settled, the Dodgers were ranked #1 for the Rec Division. Despite the insane winds out there, the Dodgers managed to find both their bats and their gloves at the same time to finish the day with 2 wins and 1 tie, scoring 57 runs in the process and hammering 11 HR (wind assisted, but still impressive).

Earning a bye in the first round of Playoff Sunday, the Dodgers waited on their quarterfinal opponents. It turned out to be a familiar foe in Rattz and, as usual, a competitive game followed. It came down to a play at the plate in the bottom of the fifth, which propelled the Dodgers into the semis. Their semi-final opponent proved too much for a tired Dodger squad, but they certainly didn't go out without a fight, bringing a very successful season to an end (thanks to this week's opponents forfeiting their games).

Production came from all over the lineup, making the selection of only one player of the tournament all but impossible. Shawna led the way with the best batting average (0.833) and on base percentage (0.909), Mike scored the most runs (10) followed closely by Jay (9) and Josh (8), Jay had the most RBIs (13) though Shaun, Matt, and Doogs were right behind him (12 each), Rob pitched as reliably as always despite the crazy winds. It was a great team effort, but the most important contribution to their success appeared to be the absence of Cam Barth. According to several players, he was a "negative force" in the dressing room, constantly calling everyone brutal and bringing their sensitive pitcher, Rob "Gingerbaby" Timlick to tears on a regular basis.

Congrats on a great, fun season Dodgers! Looking forward to a typically Dodger-esque insane wind-up.
